Term time childcare for after school drop off

Hi - DD starts reception in Sept 2013 and I need to start investigating childminders for after school pick ups.

We only need term time pick ups as my husband is a teacher. In the past, we have paid 1/2 fees during school holidays to keep our place.

Is it the norm to offer term time only after-school childcare for school age children? ie no payment due for school hols?

Yes can be, some CMs only work term time themselves and dont want child care commitments during school holidays. Look for CMs who specialise in the before and after school type of business.

I am a term time only childminder as I like to just have my own, primary school aged, children in the holidays. I don't charge anything in the holidays as I don't want to have to be available. Most of the parents I work with are teachers. Just wanted to let you know that we do exist!

I have a term time only CM - she doesn't work holidays as she has her own children and doesn't want to.

Previously I was extremely lucky to have a fabulous after school nanny who only worked term time as well. She was more expensive than my CM but she did all the after school runs to music lessons etc.

What happens if the childminder isn't term time only, will they expect something paid during hols or does it just depend?

Yes if they work all year they will want you to pay for the unusued placement probably although if you stick to people who only really do b4 and after school they are unlikely to charge you during school hols as they would need to take the children all day.

Each one will have their own terms and conditions. It is worth ringing a few and asking.

I have to pay my before & after school childminder for dd1 all year round, but then she lets me use the hours totally flexibly in the holidays e.g. over 2 weeks of hols 2 full days rather than the normal 3.5 hrs each day for 2 days pw. Hope that makes sense! She's even let me use 'banked' hours didn't use in holidays for some ad hoc days for dd2 or extra days in term time for dd1.

With the previous cm the deal was that the contract was term time only then holidays were 'as needed'. She didn't have to be available & I didn't have to pay, but she was happy to do some days if she was around. That suited me better really.

I'm the same as above childminder. I do holidays for school children as an ad hoc arrangement. I prefer a quieter time with my own children so don't want to commit so don't charge.
