Childminders Club: Settling New Babies

I've had my 3rd new baby start today and I've had a really hard time getting the nap at the right time (although parents don't have strict routine and do say it's all hit and miss at the moment). She was very tired and missed most of morning nap, luckily having afternoon nap ok now (bless, was sooooooo tired though!). Had problems getting her to eat much at all (although food is very new to her which could be why) and she's hardly had any milk from her bottles (which also happened at settling in session but mum said she was being funny about her milk so not to worry).

Just to prepare myself for tonight, I want some reassurance really.

Is it just me or do you all have problems with babies when they first come to you?

This is my 3rd new one in 3 months and the other 2 are fine now but thinking back, I think they had problems at the start too.

I think they just like to look around at everything as it's all new, so maybe fight theirs naps etc. I'm pretty sure that's it's just a matter of them being more used to their new surroundings and then they'll settle. All babies have been very happy, just not doing what they should Grin and then maybe getting overtired which can make them cry.

My problem is that all babies have started as one day a week so of course it's more than just a week or 2 until they settle properly iyswim.

So, is it normal for this to happen? Or am I doing something wrong?

Please tell me it's normal :)

Normal, they tend to like the toys to much and then want to play rather than eat or sleep. Give it a while it will change i hope!

Babies (and most other ages!) I've cared for all end up having a different routine to their home one. If the babies are happy, then the parents are happy, and that's the most important thing. So no, I don't think you are doing anything wrong!!
