There seem to be a lot of childminders looking for work with no luck, please add any ideas here for us?
I've tried advertising in every place I can think of... CIS tesco, schools, PO's newsagents, netmums, nanny job, mumsnet etc
If you have any good ideas we'd love to hear them

Caroline :)

How long ago did you try? I know some can take a while to actually appear.

I put an advert in the local newspaper, but it cost about £20. Got 2 phonecalls with one coming to see me on friday.
Might be worth a try?

TrulyScrumptious · 03/05/2006 22:47

My website gets me quite a lot of business. Cost a bit to set up in the first place but seems to get me noticed and sets me apart from others in the area.

Good luck!

Tell everyone you meet that you have places, everyone!!!. word of mouth is an amazing thing.

ladymuck · 03/05/2006 23:04

Would definitely second "word of mouth". Can you emphasise anything in terms of your experience or references. Can you volunteer at mums and toddler groups - networking opportunity and they can see how you are with kids?

ThePrisoner · 03/05/2006 23:07

Get to know any "longer-term" childminders in your area who might pass on any enquiries they have if they're full?? If you don't know any, your CIS might suggest someone near to you.

Skribble · 03/05/2006 23:07

Make sure you local pre five department or childcare link (whatever it is in your area) know that you are up and running. Our childcare link provide information for people looking for childcare and know all the local minders and who has places.

Hi I want to maybe start childminding. I want to find out information on how long the process cud take, I am already booked on an ICP course but that's not for a month yet, earliest I cud get. How do ofsted check with u that ure suitable and ure house is, how do they go about this? Do you have to have certain amount of toys for the children, small tables for eating etc?

nannynick · 16/02/2007 18:47

Ofsted registration process can typically take 3 months, sometimes more, sometimes less. You need to contact your local Early Years for the registration pack. See childcarelink website, or local council website for the contact details of your local CIS/Early Years.

Ofsted visit you to check your house is suitable, prior to issuing a registration certificate. Search threads on this board for helpful hints/tips on Ofsted Registration Visits and Inspections.
