Dear All- Where do I buy the first aid box from?

you need to make it up yourself, it needs to be in a waterproof box/bag.

Did you get a list of whats needed when you did your ICP? If not I'll find mine and post it on here for you

chezbabe101 · 27/04/2006 10:38

I need to sort one too, thanks for reminding me

The people who ran our first aid course offered us them, they're great, they have different ones and include a special one for childminders!

Jensmum, I would be grateful if you could post your list of what is suggested - it would be good to see what we are supposed to have. I have three frst aid boxes, but none of them are 'official'. Thanks

Hi i have just ordered a great first aid kit from ABC medical services. The kit is designed for childminders and has everything in it you need as a registered childminder. Its £30.00 for the set or if you need to top up existing kit they supply this also. Their web address is www.abcmedicalservices.co.uk This kit was recommended to me by sure start.

in mine i have..................

5 sterile absorbent dressing
stretch bandage
triangular bandage
antiseptic wipes

i also have a travel kit with plasters
dressings and saline pads

i could do with knowing what we're meant to have though.

I bought a childminders one from www.abcmedicalservices.co.uk (people I did my training with) and it's got everything you need. Have a look at the website. You order and then they despatch within 48 hours and then invoice you.

That's where mine's from too & it's great :)

EvesMama · 27/04/2006 19:37

i thought we werent allowed to yse plasters or antiseptic thingys? in this crazy world of law suits and all thatSad??tell me if im wrong as ill need mine once weve moved?

ayla99 · 28/04/2006 09:51

On my first 1st aid course we were told not to use antiseptic wipes or antiseptic creams

At my last 1st aid course (last november) we were told antiseptic wipes are okay but not to use antiseptic creams as these can delay the body's own healing process.

Plasters are okay if you have parent's written permission to apply them.

You don't have to buy an official first aid box - as long as the box you use is clearly labelled so that others can find it if you are the casualty (ie no biscuit tins!)

It was also pointed out on our course that most products now have expiry dates on them, so don't go overboard on bulk buys.

This is the list I got when I did my ICP, I had my inspection in September and the inspector said it was good.

20 x individually wrapped plasters (need parents permission form signing for these)
2 x eye bandages
3 x triangular bandages
10 alcohol free wipes (the only ones I've found that are alcohol free are Savlon)
2 x sterile dressings
2 x disposable gloves
6 x safety pins (in a box so children can't get hold of them)

It has to be in a waterproof box thats easily recognisable and reachable.

No potions, lotions or liquids of any sort.

The thing with first aid boxes is that different OFSTED inspectors allow different things.
