What's the current rate for a babysitter?

My friend's 14 year old (very capable and loves children, before you gasp!) is going to look after our 2 children for a couple of hours. Any tips on what hourly rate I should pay her? She will be doing a couple of hours in the evening, children already in bed, and (hopefully!) a peaceful night by the telly. (Although you never can be sure!)

I pay the girls from ds' nursery £5 per hour but they are qualified NNEB.
Not sure what I would offer to a 14 year old tbh? Sorry, that probably doesn't help!!

We pay £5 per hour but the babysitter is 21.

Could you ask her mum what she thinks would be a reasonable amount??

i used to get paid £5.00 per hour when i was babysitting at 14 with no qualifications, and that was 11 years ago, so i think £5.00 per hour is a good amount, or if you know you;re going to be longer than 4 hours and would prefer to save £30 agree on a nightly fee, like £20 per night.

Babysitting is a very responsible job, probably mre responsible than the 14 year old realises. i think she deserves to be paid a decent amount.
I babysit now as well at the age of 25 and i get £20 a night, anymore would feel like too much, the parents have enough expense paying for their night out. See what you can afford. If you're going to be out for at least 3-4 hours i think £20 would be a decent amount.

Thanks for the advice.

I think it depends slightly on what she'll be doing - I pay my DD's nursery worker £5 an hour but then she's trained and I would ask her to do things like put DD to bed. However when my next door neighbours 17 year old babysits I pay him £4 an hour on the basis that she's already in bed and all he's really doing is watching TV in a different house!
