Having no experience regarding au pairs, I am at a bit of a loss to help my daughter who has decided to take a year out before going to university and would like to go to France (studying a level french) to work as an au pair. All advice gratefully accepted regarding how to achieve this would be gratefully accepted :)

In France it's very highly regulated so it's a good country to go to. There are families who will take the piss so she needs to clue herself up on what is and isn't ok eg hours of work (5 per day), ages of children she can care for (under 3 only if she's wraparound/backup/shared charge), French lesson provision (she has to take them). She isn't there to speak Emhlish to the children - for a real au pair agreement the family language must be French.

A good CV is a must, emphasising time spent with children. If she's not confident driving here I wouldn't mention being a driver. Also any time spent abroad is something to highlight.

She can look both via websites but also agencies. Good luck to her!
