I look after siblings (plus other kids too)

The youngest child I look after will be starting nursery in Sept. Been with me for quite a while.

How do I word a letter to support continual care of a child, whos nearest school is not the one which I am attached to.

Mum would like her to attend the school which I pick up from. Her sibling attends the junior school (different site to nursery and infant). There is a bit of an age gap between the children. I also pick up from the infant school once a week. It makes sense if the little one was allowed to attend the one connected to me.

Thanks,

I did this and it didn't work.

It's not a criteria that they will even consider so save your time and energy. :(

School allocation is done solely on the permanent address of the child Monday to Friday. Current childcare arrangements have no bearing, I'm afraid, letter of support or not.

I am a cm and all my mindees and my ds attend a non catchment school, none have had a problem getting in. Is your area really over subscribed? All mum can so is apply and see what happens, if your areas one like mine you may be ok anyway. I've never been asked to provide any info one mum stated on her application that she was a single parent and did shifts and couldn't find anyone else but I have no idea if that was considered.

At present the family is living near to the other school.

I do not want to take on another school as I have done this and its not easy. I only did it because it fitted in with the times I was aready doing. For example it was doing the nursery run whilst most of the kids were at school.

What is continual care about if its not considered in this matter?

would they not consider the sibling already there?

Thanks for your replies. Smile

Obviously it will only be a problem if the preferred school is over-subscribed, otherwise you can go pretty much where you want. Most LAs operate a sibling policy, but that can sometimes be more complex if the infant and junior schools are linked but separate. And some LAs now have split the sibling rule, pushing those siblings out of catchment further down the priority list.

So, it depends on where you live.

I was going to.ask about their sibling.policy too.

Thanks for your comments. I will take a look at the schools sibling policy.
