I've changed my name here because I don't want friends using the site to know my nanny's news just yet !
My question: have any of you gone through the experience of paying SMP for a returning nanny, then claiming it back ? I actually think mine will just leave (we didn't have time for a long chat as the kids burst in and nanny wants to keep news quiet for now), but i want to be prepared in case she says otherwise on Monday morning.
Thanks for reading.

hi, we did - althouhg we use a payroll agency. It was all very straightforward - you get the cash upfront plus a couple of hundred extra. I knew mine was going to leave at the end of mat pay so was easy to recruit a new one - didn't have to advertise it as temporary. Of all the various transactiosns (mainly involving wf tax credits) we have had to do, this was by far the easiest.

Thanks "hat"; that's reassuring to hear, if we need to go down that route.

just read what you said again - don;t let her leave without mat pay - she's entitled to it whether or not she's going to leave and it doesn;t cost you anything. Technically she doesn't have to make her mind up about leaving until the end of her mat pay. However, what that does mean is that even if she tells you (informally) now that she will be leaving at the end of her pay, technically she could change her mind. With me - for various reasons - I was 100 per cent confident that she wouldn;t change her mind. hence the thing I said about being able to recruit someone permanently. Doing that could, technically, be taking a risk, though, as if your original one did change her mind, you could end up with 2 nannies! Also - while lots of people do have nannies who bring babies/children to work with them (I did and it was great - friend for dd2 and slightly cheaper nanny)you are under no legal obligation to allow her to do so

You're quite right - didn't put it very well due to rushing! Will have proper chat Monday with her. Whatever happens, she won't go short.
