Will childminders do this?

I am a SAHM at the moment with two boys, the oldest is 4 and the youngest is 6 months.

I have just heard about a job locally with the hours 4:30pm - 8:30pm five days one week 3 days the next.

My husband can get home from work between 5:30 & 6:00pm so I would only need both boys covered for a short time each day.

I would be happy to drop both boys off at the childminder at 4:00pm

So is this reasonable or possible and how much would I be looking to pay for this sort of service I live in Bromley Kent!

Thanks for any help & advice BEKsmum

if you can find a childminder with the space for those hours then yes a childminder would.

the difficulty would be that a childminder can only look after one baby usually so if she had someone that worked part time and collected chidren before 4 it would fit, or one who likes usually to do school pickups to have the rest of the day free.
The shift pattern is probably not a problem. I know childminders who accomodate this it may be the limited number of hours that is difficult as it can fill a space for a day when the CM could earn a full day's work

your best bet is to find a cm who has 2 of her younger ones going home at 4pm.

probably looking at 3.50 to 4.50 per hr per child and you'd probably have to pay for 5 days a week every week.

tea may be an issue - would you expect cm to feed them? cm probably cooking for others so might be easier if they ate too (prob additional cost though)

Thanks for this ladies, it is helping me to make up my mind whether it's financially worth going for the job or not. Beks

I would do it for you, but I am in Eltham... probably a bit far...

bambi06 · 21/04/2006 18:20

would you need it fulltime or termtime?
youd probably be paying about 90 pounds for a full week as i charge 4.50 per hour and could possibly do it as im in beckenham/anerley but i only work termtime as we tend to go away a lot

Thanks for your kind offers Jackmummy & Bambi06,

Eltham wouldn't be too far if my dh drove but the lazy monkey has never learned and I'd have the car unfortunately.

Beckenham / Anerley would be ok in actual fact, as dh works in Clapham so could come home that way but unfortunately it would be full time as it's for a hospital.

Doesn't look like this is meant to be does it. Thanks again Beks

i would do it but i live in croydon (again) to far. i charge between £3.75 and £4.00.

you will get childminders who will do it. I am a student and my hours are different every week. Saying that now, my childminder is an absolute angel. Some days I am at Uni for 4 hours, other days 2 hours.. she has ds and feeds him and she is so so good.. she charges me hardly anything as I am a student and will not take money for any hours that she doesn't have him! she won't take holiday pay but I am not supposed to tell others that Blush I think she is amazing and she is a true friend.

Beksmum you need to move by me, i have room now for your two boys. Yes a childminder would do this, although if you're having 5 days one week and 3 the next you may need to pay for the 5 days every week.
I don't see why anyone would refuse. I find as well that the younger children that I have all go home by about 3, so would definitly have room.

Hope you find someone who can help you. I'd start looking as soon as possible, there is a lot of demand in some areas, and childminders charge different rates to one another.

Good luck.

Hey Diddle, how are you doing? I'd love you to have my two, but like you haven't got enough on your plate at the moment Grin How's the bump doing?

Are you going to continue working after bump arrives then?

You know I'm going to be scanning for your birth announcement don't you - I think you & Hellkat should get your dh's to post on the November thread to just for me and Rodeo Grin I got to meet her last week and she's really nice!

Don't think it's going to be financially worth it to get both of the munchkins covered so it's back to the drawing book for now - will keep looking though.

Right best go and get Ben from school, thanks for the encouragement though! Beks
