Hi all, My 18 year old daughter is coming to the end of her apprenticeship in a nursery, she is a brilliant nursery nurse and wants to continue in this line of work, but she is making noises about travelling to Australia or America to be a Nanny or Au Pair. Is this safe and are there any agencies that are better to use, I am extremely worried that she will just sign up with anyone and not know exactly what she is getting into. Do any of you have any experience of this or any advice for her?

she should try contacting childcare international - my aussie friend came to the UK with them

or maybe kiwi oz agency, but they may want candidates with more experience.

For what its worth, i'd recommend oz.... didn't au pair or nanny there, travelled there, its very safe. Def considering nannying there myself in the future

I've au paired myself in europe and used au pair world . net, and flew out for a trial meeting with the family for a long weekend beforehand. diff if not europe tho, obv.

She doesnt need to go through an agency there is heaps of familys looking that use different means, does she have an idea of where she wants to go?

If she has any questions let me know as I live in Australia and have worked as an au pair and nanny over here

For America it's obligatory to go via the au pair scheme to get a visa, so that may be a safer first option if she doesn't have previous experience.

Get all her paper work, working with children card etc before arriving in Australia otherwise she simply cannot work.

As far as I know, Australia does not have a foreign au-pair scheme. Many use finds babysitter.com or the like.

Sorry, spellchecker. Findababysitter.com
