Out of interest, what do you think you have to do to get an "outstanding"?

loulou5 · 15/04/2006 23:41

WOW, Katymac - That's one great report you have there! Smile

hunkermunker · 15/04/2006 23:44

Katymac! That's marvellous! Congratulations! You should write a book Grin (And move to West London...!)

Katymac · 16/04/2006 08:43

Thanks GuysBlush

But the problem is that I don't think I do anything that special or different

Like Juliaemma I'm not sure what "it" is

...oh & I'm not moving back to London - I left in 1998 and has visited regularily - but I aint going back noway nohow Grin

katymac, that is a fantastic report, well done!

Interestingly, no mention made of birth to three, that I see in all our local reports. Did the inspector ask you about it? It seems to be a big focus in this area at inspection.

juliaemma · 16/04/2006 10:22

katymac- thats a fantastic report. I can see why you got an outstanding by some of whats written. When i asked my inpector how to get it, she said you would litterally have to have your home like a nursery and dedicate everything to the healthy wel being of the children, which it sounds like your doing. well done. xx

alibubbles; When i had my inspection, i hadnt even done the birth to 3 course yet, but i stuck the poster on my wall (for that short time..it soon came off again!!!) and said i work with the birth 2 3 guidelines, she saw the poster and was impressed and didnt ask much more about it!! I think they just want to hear the words and that you have some basic understanding of it...mind you its really not that easy to understand, quite complicated!

I have done the B23 courses and started building folders for the chhildren - but it takes so long and I need to priorotise my NVQ

babydales · 16/04/2006 20:28

I too got an outstanding and feel that it is able to be achieved by most people. I work to guidelines and offer to children what I would give my own. Anyway try the link to my report and see what you think.\link{http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/reports/index.cfm?fuseaction=ccreportHTML&id=146121\this}

Katymac · 16/04/2006 21:50

Babydales - our reports are significantly different (imo) - I think OFSTED is inconsistant in it's gradings - and it is all about the perception of the inspectors

bubble99 · 16/04/2006 21:52

Two outstandings in the same thread! Well done to you both. Smile

babydales · 17/04/2006 11:24

Sorry, Katymac, but do you think that after reading MY report you think I didnt deserve one?

Katymac · 17/04/2006 11:39

No BD I think yours is great - but I don't understamnd how 2 reports (so different) can get the same grade - yours was really detailed with lots of fantastic stuff I never even thought of - so why did I get Outstanding

I am more professional than the local (to me) childminders but I'm not that much better

babydales · 17/04/2006 11:51

I think that as long as you work to the guidelines, and remember that they are only guidelines, so to get an outstanding you have to work beyond them you will be graded accordingly. So take a look at what you offer and see how you can go beyond that either through training or better practice, see what other people do and adapt that to your setting, we cant all offer the same as everyone else but others may have ideas that you may not have thought of, or did think of but you were not sure how that could be worked in your setting. Get out and meet other minders swap ideas, read the mags and look at the web sites and you will be surprised that sometimes a small idea can make a big difference.

alibubbles · 17/04/2006 13:33

Brilliant babydales!

I might have been minding a long time, but I have got a lot to live up to now with you two!

BTW, when were your previous inspections, I was last Ofsted in Jan 2004
