Average cost of a nanny

I'm sure there is this info somewhere but I'm trying to find something realistic for my part of south east. How much would a nanny for 4 days a week (not weekends)? Ds is in second nursery in 6 months & it's not entirely working out. Thinking a nanny may be better for us.

Rough ballpark nanny salary wise I would say £10 gross an hour for someone experienced, qualified. It may well range £8-12.

If you search my username you will find that I have posted in the past about general costs of employing a nanny like travel expenses, activities etc.

It depends on where you are and what you're looking for.

Where I am, some nannies are on as little as £9 or £10 per hour gross. I have 20 years of childcare experience and am currently on over £16 per hour gross (as a 2days a week nanny).

Then there are other things to consider like kitty, petrol, food, extra heating and lighting etc

my friend pays her very experienced nanny £8 per hour (and nanny v happy with this as she'd been working in a nursery for a while due to no nanny posts and getting the minimum wage)

WickedGirl - I need to move to where you are, £16 an hour - I can but dream Smile

Location can make a difference, where I live I know I can get more money if I want to drive closer towards London but I don't want the commute so I'm happier to earn less and not spend an hour+ driving to work.

Sleepless....is that net or gross?

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/11/2012 23:54

As others said it varies where excalty you are in the south east and how experienced you want (and can afford) the nanny to be

I'm paid £13 gross (21yrs sole charge expereince) but got offered a job for £8 gross - needless to say I turned the job down Grin

I pay my nanny monthly for 3.5 days, total 40 hours, its around £2,200 per month, plus employers national inurance about £200.

She doesn't use her car with the DCs as no need to around here, but I also pay for her nanny parking permit so she can park outside - that's another £136 per year.
£25 in the kitty which she rarely spends as a lot of playgroups are free, or activities I pay for on a termly basis.
Food - no idea, I tell her to just help herself from our fridge/cupboards.

Majulu - 4 hours an evening, 5 days per week, is probably what you will find referred to on here as being an after-school nanny. Very hard to know likely cost, it will vary and may well be more per-hour than a full-time nanny but it might be the same. Consider how much you feel the job is worth and how much you can afford (keep in mind all the associated costs, including Employers NI which won't be a lot given the low number of hours, possibly around £500 a year - PAYE Calculator)... offer the Gross salary and see who applies.

Most nannies I would have thought are paid monthly, some may be paid weekly, doubt there are many who are paid daily. It's near the end of the month and I've just had my payslip from work. Fairly common I suspect that pay goes in to an account around this time of the month.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/11/2012 18:14

and sure frak said that all nannies must be paid monthly by april 2013 so HAVE to be monthly not weekly

temp jobs are weekly as obv dont know how long im there for, but all perm jobs ive been paid monthly for years
