Childminders Club: Health Question - advice please?

I've posted this under health but wondered if any of you lovely ladies could help?

One of my mindees (just turned 3) had dried up dark discharge on her knickers (noticed when took her to the toilet - never had before).

I just wondered if this may mean she has a slight infection or something? Anyone know?

I know she's a little run down with a cold and just had conjunctivitis (not bad though).

Any advice would be great so I can pass on to her mum.

Thanks :)

Have you seen my reply? Have you made a note in your booklet or ncma book becuase couldnt this be a sign of abuse?

HellyBelly · 04/04/2006 19:09

I've got a note etc yes but why do you think it could be abuse? She's got conjunctivitis and a cold so is run down so probably more likely to get things. I know at home she's started wiping herself after no.2's as well as 1's so it's probably caused by that (know this after talking to her mum earlier).

Just interested in why you mention abuse?

:)

Because it can be a sign, She could be rundown but discharge should be investigated as it could be kidney infection, bladder infection nothing that you should keep to yourself.

This was covered in cp.

I've got a note and I've spoken to her mum and told her I'd go to the dr's if it was me. She's going to keep an eye on it. Not sure I can actually MAKE the mum take her to the Dr's.

Im a nurse but dont know if can help. Is it vaginal , rectal or urinary? Isnt it just that she hasnt wiped herself after going for a poo? Why do people just jump in and assume abuse. It makes me concerned as a parent that people can so naturally assume child abuse.

Isyhan - Thanks so much for reassuring me (name change btw, in case confused). She was clear after a day or 2 so no need to panic. I must say it really upset me to start with about the abuse thing as I like to think that I am capable of making a judgement call and as a parent I would be mortified at a childminder thinking this. My question to MN and concern was a medical one, that's all. Anyway, I spoke to my childminding co-ordinator and she agreed that I shouldn't worry too much, her DD gets this every time she gets a bad cold - just comes out all ends Wink
