Hi! I am currently waiting for my certificate for childminding, i have been in the process since December 2005, and up until now i have been happily nannying for the last 9years! Just recently (Jan 2006)i started working for a family on a temp contract until June, i gathered all would be sorted by then, then last Thursday told me the position is no more... Talk about throw me in the deep end. I am now earning absolutely nil, and have a 7mth old and a mortgage and feel at my wits end with worry. My patner is currently laid up after having an operation so he is on basic pay for the next 6mths...He is going back to work in 2wks time but his pay is based on achieving and he won't be able to do this. Talk about bad timing. I did have a contract which says 6wks notice but they paid me 4wks and told me to go. Reason being they finally found a nanny without their own child.... What would you all do? I have to wait a couple of weeks then can apply for working tax credit but this will not touch my outgoings.... I'm onto all the nanny agencies around my area and have 2 interviews but they don't start until May...... I just wish i could speed up my childminding application.........xx

no wonder you're worried i have to say it seems you are doing all you can towards finding more work - have you rang ofsted to ask what is going on with your application? (you probably have) in the meantime i would say you need to find work - any work be it bar work, care work, shop work - anything just to pay the bills or if worst comes to the worst can you see about getting a loan?

i have been in the process of registering since dec 05 too and i know how fustrating the waiting is, my mat pay ended on 6th march and i needed an income so i got a job as a care worker (was supposed to be until childminding took off but im actually enjoying it so will probably do both for a while and see how it pans out) if i hadnt got the job as a care worker i would have had to do bar work as its quite an easy job to get and can be temporary but i have to say i wouldnt have enjoyed it.

i hope things get better soon good luck.

What area do you live in? I bet you could pick up a nanny job. Might not be top rate pay, but it would help pay the bills.

Uwila · 28/03/2006 12:42

Oh, and I'd tell your former employer that they owe you two more weeks pay. If they tell you to take a hike, tell them you will proceed with legal action. If you have a contract and pay stubs, etc. you will win.

I'm in Herts, i would happily consider any work as long as i had an income but then i'd need childcare for my ds? I have called ofsted, my crb is nearly finished... so nothing more can be done til then. Arghhh! Life!

What about a local nanny job for a bit less pay? Or even babysitting for cash in hand (if that's legal).

I'm trying to find another position, not so easy as people are often looking well in advance....But i am trying.... x

Register with Sitters, they are very active in herts. (I sat for the a few times as I was thinking about buying a franchise and wanted to see how they worked)

You could be babysitting everynight if you wanted to. It would help bring in some income. I get calls from them still 2 years later.

Advertise yourself on www.nannyjob.co.uk and look at the jobs advertised there, there are temporary ones and some accept nanny's own child.

What are of Herts are you? I am St Albans and have lots of caall everyweek for a minder, so could point them in your direction for when you are registered.

I registered with sitters, i found lots of work with them but processing it takes a while and wont be a quick fix.

Hi! I am in Hertford. And i have been with sitters+safehands for about 6yrs, but have the problem my partner works shifts, arriving home at 11pm at least two nights a week, so would have no childcare for my baby! My Dp is off until next week though so will call them and check out what they have until then... I have ad's on nannyjob too, and the replies i get are always miles away! Someone asked me to do a school run in Romford, Essex!
I'm keeping happy as i can't worry too much, i am going to pop down the job centre tommorow and have a chat... Thanks Alibubbles for your offer-its lovely to know there is a great childminding need! Other than that i should have a sale on Ebay! xx
