CM Club: Variation Request accepted!!!!

Just thought i'd share my good news with you all.

I have out a request in to care for 2 children under 1, one of which will be my own and to have 4 under 5's during the school holidays, again of course one my own. I hoped i would get the term time request granted and never thought for a second that the holidays one would but. They have both been accepted.
It was all very confusing as when i spoke to the Ofsted lady they don;t count my own child, so when she was busy saying 3 under 5's etc she meant that number plus my own.

I am thrilled!!! so pleased that i don't have to worry anymore about cancelling contracts etc.

Great news... though, how do tell us how you managed to get this one through - what were you registered for before the variation? How old are the children concerned? Are any of them related to each other? Your tips, may be of help to others who are looking at increasing numbers of Under 5's.

diddle · 29/03/2006 07:56

I was registered for 6 children before, 3 under & 3 over 5. One under one which i have already is a sibling of an over 5 i care for and the 2nd under one is my own baby, due in June.

Have no idea how i managed it for the school holidays, but its only for a few hours and not every day that there would be 4 under 5's. she said that as long as i could tell her the hours, and my numbers won't be exceeding 7 at the most.
I am gob smacked and thrilled.

I am quite an organised person though and had an excel timetable to email them so that they could see exactly where the overlaps were, this may have made it eaiser for them to understand and agree to.

diddle - that's great, I wish I could be so organised.

I need to get a variation to 3 under 5's for September, I've been trying to write it now for about 3 weeks but I don't know how to word it. How did you word yours?

diddle · 29/03/2006 17:09

sure jensmum here it is

"I was wondering if I could put in a request for 2 under 1’s. I will shortly be looking after a baby that will be a couple of months old when she starts. She is the sibling of a child I have currently cared for, for around 3 years. I also have my own baby due at the beginning of June.

During Term time this will mean having 3 under 5’s. I don’t know if this is possible but during the school holidays would it be possible to have 4 under 5’s as long as my total numbers does not exceed 6? If this is not possible then that’s fine, I would have to sort something out for the other ones, But I would definitely still want 2 under 1’s variation.

I have prior experience with caring for more than one under 1, when I worked at a local day nursery, I was primarily with the under 1’s. Caring for upto 3 at once.

As well as having experiences that I have ganied through childminding.

As I have cared for under ones already during my childminding career, I already have one set of equipment and will be purchasing another set for my own baby, so I am already well prepared. I also have a good family support network, my husband is often at home, and my mom is only 15 minutes away. Although they’re not registered, if for any reason I needed to call on them to care for my own child then they could. Although this certainly wouldn’t be a regular occurrence, and feel able I can cope with the variation alone.

I have attached a copy of my timetable for you to see the children that I would have here at the same time. Once you have looked at my timetable, if you could let me know what is or isn’t possible, as the children I care for in the school holidays is different to term time.

I know that there is probably quite a lot of paperwork involved, but it would be great if I could get some sort of idea if this is going to be possible, so I can at least discuss it with the parents of the baby."

I've typed most of my letter for a variation (thanks diddle yours really helped) but I don't know how to start it do I put

To whom it may concern,

or

Dear sir or madam,

then at the end do I put

Yours sincerely,

or something else?

It's been so long since I wrote a formal letter that I've not got a clue!
