DH works part time as a teacher and looks after our girls part time, he is thinking of getting the relavent pieces of papers to become a child minder so he can help look after friends children in the school holidays for some renummaration.

After insurance costs, training, ect will it be worth it?

I would think as a teacher he would be a great childminder - is he going to look after older children only? or babies as well?

My Dh is a childminder (along with me)

Training is usually free (ICP & 1st aid)
He needs to contact CIS

\link{http://www.childcarelink.gov.uk/whitebox/postcodesearch.asp?Intro=1\look here} you can see how many childminders there are locally and how much they are earning

He might have a problem with teacher training days (or what ever they are called now)

Thanks - i think he'd like to look after children the same ages as ours, so 3/4 years and 9months - 18months, he teaches biggies (6th form)

would he be able to fit in the babies around his existing work?

How many children do you have?

katzg · 19/03/2006 22:19

2 girls 9months and 3 years

He works 3.5 days a week at the mo but i'm applying for a new job and might be increasing my hours so he will decrease his, so his thought is if he's home with our girls he might as well look after a couple more and earn a little bit of money, so he would be looking at doing 2 days a week normally and then maybe full weeks in the school hols for people who have early primary aged children or childminders that only do school terms

He would be allowed one other child under 5 (& is normally only allowed 1 under 1)

So it would be mainly holidays and after schools

Have you looked to see what childminders in your area earn per child?

Much more important, katz, will you be able to get a cleaning lady or will he take full responsibility for the cleaning if he's in the house during the holidays Grin

katzg · 19/03/2006 22:23

thanks for your help!

there seems to be a wide range of charges here from 2.50 - 4 an hour!

off to bed now but will be back with more questions tomorrow!

Trib - in the hols i work full time so cleaning is his full responsibility! so we might get a cleaner
