Just wondered how ready people are. What have you done to get ready and what have you still to do? Just out of curiosity really.

New EYFS? What new EYFS?

Panic!!!!

Registered back in March and only just about to start minding on Wed. Overload of info, very confused and to top it all I have my first inspection on 12th Sep, which will only be my 4th day of minding. Help.

HSMM · 31/08/2012 22:13

Yes. Just tweaked a couple of policies. All the rest will be.more or less the same. I am changing the format of my termly assessments to match the new areas, but nothing drastic.

ZuleikaD · 01/09/2012 06:51

TheHamish you have probably been working from the new EYFS already - check the date on your version. You should have:
Statutory Framework as published on 27 March 2012 (date is on the last page, page 30)
Development Matters in the EYFS
A Know How Guide (the EYFS progress check at age 2)
The parent guide to the EYFS

If you haven't got these documents, better get downloading!

TheHamish · 01/09/2012 07:35

I've got the new EYFS, I was just joking as it's another addition to the massive amounts of paperwork that I am currently drowning under.

ZuleikaD · 01/09/2012 07:37

Oh, ok. Ha ha.

TheHamish · 01/09/2012 07:55

But v helpful in that I don't have the parents guide to the EYFS so I'll download that today, thanks.

TheHamish · 01/09/2012 07:58

Or the Know How guide, come to think of it.

What it does mean is that the online CYPOP5 which I finished last week has become unfinished again with extra sections added.

The DfE is about to give birth to its new baby at precisely 00:00hrs on Monday 3rd September...its reformed name is EYFS 2012......good luck to all those delivering it !!!

I am sure dad Gove and godfather Sir Michael at Ofsted are going to be very happy

While the EYFS 2008 comes to its last breath please remember that Every Child Matters is embedded in it and ECM is still the law!

As people are rightly saying there is little change in the 2012 version...it is cleverly written in 'edu speak' according to the DfE to shorten it so the slimming down can be verified visually not in practice....
there are a couple of changes and I am sure these will be discussed for ever...

In the meantime many wonder what is it that is happening to the Early Years workforce...are we being less regulated ot deregulated?

No one has noticed us as the selling of the playing fields, the GCSE results and cuts to disability allowance have taken the focus off us.....some are protesting outside DfE and DWP...will we do the same and march so that someone will listen to our concerns at lack of consultation? ?

WickedGirl · 01/09/2012 11:04

what are the main changes in the new EYFS?

Italiana · 01/09/2012 18:29

There are 6 changes to the Learning and Development requirements and 7 for the Welfare
Go on the DfE website and download a very short summary 'Overall reforms to EYFS 2012 Framework'...it is a good tick list
Hope it helps

Bonkerz · 01/09/2012 18:32

All sorted here. New policy added for mobile phone and camera an new next steps done along with a progress review to end old learning journey and start new EYFS.

WickedGirl · 01/09/2012 18:34

thank you

Italiana · 01/09/2012 22:36

Good luck everyone...all starts Monday...any problems we can share and get through as best we can

MUM2BLESS · 02/09/2012 14:54

Does the 2 yrs old check need to be done in one go?

Early this morning I was sorting my form for this.

What are you telling your parents about this?

I read through the infor them simplified it for myself.

HSMM · 02/09/2012 15:28

Our local health visitors have been accepting my sum native assessments for several years now, so I'm not changing anything til someone asks me to.

Italiana · 02/09/2012 15:48

It is a 'progress check' that starts at age 2 (24 to 36 months) and ends when you and parents decide the time for the Summative assessment which is a short summary of progress ....it could be at 30 or 32 months or a bit later usually goes hand in hand with health check from h/visitor

What you do is retrace the progress the child has made and which you have recorded through observations (formative assessment) to make your summative assessment
You should highlight areas of emerging or expected or even exceeding development as well as areas you feel the child may need support

Even if you do not have a 2 year old at time of inspection you need to show 'evidence' on how you would do a progress check...so do have some form of paperwork ready

It is not difficult but you must use the 'language' of the EYFS 2012 and refer to the 3 prime areas

The publication on this is very clear and simple and you can have any way of doing this...no prescriptive paperwork...whay works for you is fine

HSMM · 02/09/2012 15:56

I've done summative assessments once a term for all my under 5s for years and never had to change the way I do it. The development matters document is great for this (and for planning).

Italiana · 02/09/2012 21:37

Absolutely..however the requirements for the 'progrees check' are slightly altered because it a ' statutory requirement' now while before some carers did not do it as it was their choice

I too, like many others, have done summative assessments but I understand they now need a new format which is subject to 'inspection'
I am sure we will all do our best in our individual way !!!
