ofsted are visiting me for a routine inspection, (Im an ofsted Nanny) in one hour, in my home (It's my day off).
I have been getting all my papers together, insurance etc and have found that my pead first aid ran out last December Sad , I do have a first aid certificate from when I worked in a childrens home but it doesn't say peadiatric on it, (this runs out next september)
Do you think that they will allow me to just book a first aid course in the near future or will they send me to ofsted hell!?? panic panic

I think it will be put as an action, I'd get ringing up now if you can and book on to one to show you have realised and booked on.

broodyandpoor · 13/08/2012 09:03

what is an action? What are the consequences?

You could book a course now, so you can show you've sorted it out.

Whilst it's fresh in your mind, what questions did she ask, docs she checked?

Congrats on passing.

Thank you okay.. offered her a fresh coffee upon her arrival Wink
there were around 20 questions.

One thing she did say which I thought was worth noting, is that if your first aid certificate is not up to date and the nanny says 'I'm so sorry I only just realised, I will get it updated ASAP' , Ofsted then just write a friendly reminder to you but if you say something along the lines of 'well I know it all of by heart anyway' then you have an action put against you which can go on your record.

a)do you or your employers smoke in front of the children?
b)Do you keep yourself updated with legislation regarding safe guarding?
c)do your charges have any illnesses or SN's- how do you address them?
d)do you make the children aware of other cultures/religions?
e)have you made it clear to the parents what your responsibilities are with regards to child protection? (ie that you would report anything untoward)
f)have you got public liability nanny insurance?
g)can you show me your first aid certificate?
e)Are you aware that you need to report an address or employment change or your reg will lapse?
f)do you keep the doors to the house locked when nannying?
g)do you ever let the children out of your sight?
h)are there any people coming in and out of the house which could be dangerous to the children or are you always with them?

I then asked her about the de-regulation of Early years and she assured me that it is just a way to make it more simple and less paper work for child minders.

I hope this help someone one day and I hope you get as nice one as me Smile

d and f are questionable, not sure they can ask those. I also wpnder about g.
g - put washing in washing machine = children not in eye sight but may still be in hearing range.

I did say that the parents are very atheist and keen for the children to be so too but she told me that I must teach them about other celebrations in case they go to other peoples houses and have an understanding, I just agreed but in reality if I tried to teach them about Hanukkah I would get told off by my boss Confused
