Costs for a Nanny our similar in Cumbria

I have a friend with twins who has looked into the cost/logistics of a childminder and decided in home help would suit her better.

I'm a childminder so she had asked for my help advice but not really sure about costs outside childminding.

Does anyone what costs she would be looking at?

Thank you

Hi, It all depends whether she is looking for a live-in or live-out nanny. Where abouts in cumbria are you?

Near Penrith, not live in though. She works from home at the moment with a view to going back into the workplace.
Thanks for getting back to me.

We're in Yorkshire and pay £9.50 per hour gross for a live out nanny. Why not get your friend to call a few local agencies, saying she's looking for a nanny (f maybe not mention it'll be you!), and ask what the going rate is?

Thanks Irish, how many children do you have?

There aren't many agencies close by. I moved down south from Penrith a month ago with my family and for work as I am a nanny.

It also depends how much experience she would like her to have, this can make a big difference to the pay. I know that a lot of students will be finishing level 3 childcare courses from now onwards, and having lived in Penrith all my life, and studied there, i know that there are always in experienced and experienced people working in childcare looking for a job. I suggest your friend has a look on childcare.co.uk.

It will probably be hard to establish a going rate in an area in which there may not be many nannies. It doesn't really matter if there is a going rate or not, what matters is what your friend can afford to pay and what they feel it's worth paying to get the right person to care for their children.

Has your friend looked at finances and calculated what they can afford to pay for childcare? Have they looked at the costs of employing a nanny, such as looking at Employers NI, estimates for daily expenses, that sort of thing.

In April I wrote about the costs of a 3 day nanny (30 hour) on my blog. Total was a couple of hundred over £20,000.

The more hours that the nanny is to work, the higher the cost, as the biggest cost involved is often the nannies salary, rather than the additional cost things.

The number of children involved I do not feel is relevant. A nanny is paid a salary for caring for all the children in the family. I've certainly come across nannies in my local area who care for one child, who are paid more than me, and I care for 3 children. The number of children isn't important... it's the parents ability to pay, what they feel it's worth paying, and what the nanny will accept.
