I have a policy for complaints. Do I need to include the form for complaints within this policy (if someone wants to make a complaint) or do I give this if requested.

Thanks

You shouldn't make someone fill in a form if they have something they are concerned about, and most complaint forms I have seen are clearly for the childminders use (for instance this one from the excellent Bromley CMA). Leave it out of the policy.

Like Mr A said. If a parent wants to complain, they do it in any way they like and I write it up, not them.

The inspector will want to see that you have a complaints form though it won't be part of your policy.

Thanks everyone.

MrAnchovy thanks for the link.

ZuleikaD why do you need a form if its not for the parents? is that just a requirement?

The form helps you show that you can comply with the policy by recording the relevant information. If an inspector asks you what information you would record in relation to a complaint you can say "the information on this form". If you haven't got a form you are going to fumble for the answer and are likely to miss something out so can easily be marked down.

Thanks for that, I understand now.

Should i include my permission forms within my p and p or is that seperate?

I was due for inspection last November, would like to be ready.

"Should i include my permission forms within my p and p or is that seperate?"

The reason for not including the forms within the policies is that when you are complying with the following requirement ...

"CR9.1 Childminders must make the following information available to parents:

  • information about the activities the children will undertake
  • copies of the written statements of safeguarding procedures and complaints procedures."

... you don't want to be handing over a load of blank forms that are never going to be used.

There are two basic ways of ordering your files: each procedure document with the forms behind it, or all the policies and procedures in one section with all the forms in another. Which you use is personal preference.

THANK YOU SO MUCH MisterAnchovy

I like the idea of P & P together and then Permission forms together.
