Question says it all! Thinking examples more than the obvious!

DS1 got a story sack home from nursery. They have 4 types and he chose on the farm

Inside was a touchy feely book had in it animals, farm equipment, fruits and vegetables.

4 plastic animals.

Spot the dog storybook

Pairs game cards

It was excellent, and his twin brothers loved it too and they are only 2

The hungry Catapillar - catapillar (severl sizes) butterfly, leaf, various food stuffs etc

Three little pigs...3 pigs, straw, sticks, bricks & a wolf

You can laminate pictures or use actual props - but think laterally.....small soft toys, felt or paper cutouts?

A blue scarf could be the sea in one story, the sky or a river in another and a princesses dress in a third

Is that what you were looking for?

They are fab.
My kids love them and my friend is employed making them for/with local school and libraries.
Dd loved a Little Red Riding Hood one.
Stories, cassettes,a cape, basket full of food, puzzles, facts about wolves and so on.

All in Welsh/English.

Are you thinking of making them or want to borrow one? Our local nursery has a group of mums who meet each week and make them so they have quite a few. They loan them out to anyone who would like to borrow one, for free. I am pretty sure our local CIS loans them out too. They are really good.

I'd like to make a couple, for the kids and see how it goes. Noone has anything like it around here (well no CMs etc that I know)

DDs old nursery used to do them, fab idea- I shall do some of my own when mindee is old enough to appreciate(sp) them.

Dd gets them in reception. We've had 2 so far:

3 Billy Goats Gruff - story book, 3 goat toys, troll handpuppet, wooden bridge, playmat background thingy

Dressing Up - picture book, feather boa, 3 pairs of sunglasses, handbag, shawl, cape, veil, echo microphone, false beard, 4 clothes pegs (the dolly kind)

I'm making one. Been doing a course at ds's school.
The Elves and the shoemaker.
I've done the sack out of a pillow case.
The characters out of wooden spoons.
Making a tape of the story.
Silly sentence game.
Songs to do with shoe making.
I'm also going to cut out different shoes so that they can see when different shoes can be worn.

Ones we have had from school have often had a factual book on the same topic as the storybook - eg a 'my body' type book with a book about going to the hospital (I forget the title), and a doctors set, dressing up stuff for Dr and Nurse. Some had games in - either bought ones or made ones. Sequencing is fun - pictures of the main points of the story to put in order. It has been a while since DS had any but we loved them!

A toddler group I go to has one but they have 1 item to symbolise a song or story, each child takes a turn to choose a toy

They pick out a cow, we all sing old macdonal
They pick out a rabbit we all sing sleeping bunnies
They pick out a star, we all sing twinkle twinkle

etc
etc

slightly different, but really good fun
