Childminders holidays?...

Just a quick query- my childminder has just gone on holiday and of course we are paying her for her holiday but was curious to know how much hols other minders allow?
Also- while I've got everyone- how much do you pay for a day? I am paying £40 per day in North London and when I tell people they gasp in horror- I thought that was the going rate...

Hiya

We pay half for four weeks a year and half on bank holidays. Otherwise we pay the full amount if c/m is available to work, and on the very (VERY) occasional day that she asks for an additional day off we don't pay her at all. I pay £3 per hour when c/m has my dds full-time (that is, dd2 all the time and dd1 in school hols) but £4 per hour for after school for dd1. I pay half during the time when dd2 is at nursery school (2.5 hours/day). This is in Yorkshire.

My contracts say 4 weeks paid holiday, although in reality I don't take 4 weeks at all, am I'm actually considering changing my contracts so that parents don't pay me for my holidays - I don't like the thought of parents having to pay me and then another childcarer to cover me!

I don't charge for bank holidays as I'm not available.

North London - £40 is definately the going rate. I'm in Islington and that's the going rate around here. I know a few cms in Hackney who charge £30 and a few in Islington who charge £50.

Hi
I charge £4 per hour, I'm in Cardiff.
Rates differ from area to area, also on experience of childminders etc.

At the end of the day, even £4/hr is below minimum wage!

I'm not in London, I charge £3.50/hour, and I don't charge anything if I'm on holiday.

blondehelen · 06/03/2006 22:22

paid my last childminder £25 a day or 3.50 an hour. Have had 3 childminders and never had to pay for any of their holidays.

My childminder doesn't charge for her holiday. We have the agreement that if we cancel/go on holiday/have sick children we pay. If she goes on holiday/is ill, etc. we don't.

Works out fairly evenly. The only 'problem' in a way is that we go on holiday when she does because we have to take time off work to look after the children. It makes sense to go away then ourselves so we end up paying school holiday prices despite the fact the children aren't at school yet.

I'm in North London - and charge £45/50 per day based on a ten hour day so basically £5ph but that is average where I live; some childminders do charge

slightly lower and some higher!

I don't charge for any holidays that I may take (haven't taken yet as can't afford to lose two weeks earnings) - I wouldn't feel comfortable with a parent having to pay for alternative childcare as well as me.

HellyBelly · 07/03/2006 12:17

I'm in Berkshire and charge £3.50 per hour (£35 per 10 hour day or £30 a day if full time). I don't charge for my holidays/illness etc. but I do charge for parents holiday, illness etc.

I'm the same as Tan, not taken any holiday of my own yet as I can't afford the drop in income.

My childminder in SE London is £32 a day, charges half rate when she is on holiday, full rate all the rest of the time including bank holidays. She tells us waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay in advance when she's going to be off. It seems a pretty good deal to me.

Bozza · 07/03/2006 12:23

We're in Yorkshire. I pay £3/hr for before/after school but £2.60/hr in the hols. CM has 4 weeks off at half price, if she's off for other reasons we don't pay. We have 4 weeks hols at half price, if we're off for other reasons (extra days, DS sick etc) we do pay.
