Would you let your mindee play out on the street?

I have a 10 year old mindee who would like to go out and play with his mates on the street/ surrounding area.

His mum asked if he could on their visit. I thought about it and said no.

Does anyone else allow their older mindees to do this?

I got reported to them for letting a 12 year old out but when they saw I had written
Permission they said it was fine.

It's would be too much responsibility for me to take that decision.

So only minded littlies.

MUM2BLESS · 25/07/2012 09:37

I personally would not be keen on this. With your own thats different.

You are responsible if anything goes wrong, unless you get this in writing.

I was faced with a situation where one of my cm kids kept walking in front of me and out of my sight on the school run. It was a tugg of war with lots of talking to him and informing his mum. Mum did eventually allow him to walk ahead (written permission).

Yep i agree, although I think I might have problems with my 10 yr old mindee this year wanting to play out, especially when my 10 yr old son goes out aind meets his mates Sad

However shes a bright girl, so Im sure she'll understand..

MaryPoppinsBag · 25/07/2012 13:08

I think I will keep him in, I an only looking after him this week and next and then a couple of days round his holidays.

I just don't think that I can take a risk.
His Mum isn't keen on the boy he is wanting to go and play with anyway.

I try to keep things balance with mine and the cm kids.

Sometimes your own kids may not always want the cm kids to be doing what they are doing. I keep this in mine.

DO you go to the park with the kids?

I look after kids of varying ages. Going to the park is a way in which everyone can take park.

what activities does the 10 yr enjoy doing? At that age they are not babies but not teenagers either. Its that "I want to be independant age"

MaryPoppinsBag · 25/07/2012 15:18

I went to the park this morning Smile
Planned on going Monday / Tuesday but my DS was under the weather.

I know it's an awkward age.
I just have the 10 year old as my other 2 mindees Mum is a teacher. I don't have any little ones at the mo.

He isn't with me everyday either.

I am planning on heading out somewhere next week possibly a local castle or soft play, and will do the park again. Also going to do the Reading challenge at the library.

(my DS are 3 & 6)

I cant imagine ofsted would say anything about it since you dont even need to be registered to care for a child over 8!

I look after older children during the school hols. I have 2x11yr olds, 1x10yr old, 1x13yr old, 1x15yr old and my own boys are 10 and 14.

They all go out and about in the local area. They all have friends locally, they all take a mobile phone, they all have rules and timescales to stick to. As long as they follow all that then I am happy to just be here to supervise and feed them!
