What is standard practice with nannies in dividing your holidays and theirs. IE if I take a week off work (Agreed in advance) , do they take this out of their holiday entitlement or is it unpaid?

I think normally you decide when they take 1/2 of their holidays (ie, to coincide with yours) and they decide on the other 1/2

Often the family chooses 2 weeks and the nanny chooses 2.
(in terms of paid holiday leave)

If the employer / your taking a week off work that you've chosen (and they[nanny] are available to work), then this should be one of the weeks chosen by you [employers] out of your '2' weeks... IYSWIM

What have you and your employer / nanny got in your contract re: holiday?

RancerDoo · 17/07/2012 21:34

As soldeinvierno said. And then if you have more hols the nnny gets extra (paid) time off - you have to pay for this really, as it is not the nannys fault there is no work for her.

mogandme · 17/07/2012 21:35

General consensus is 2 weeks their choice, 2 weeks your choice plus the bank holidays. If you go over the 5.6 weeks then you pay because she is available to work and you have decided to give her more holiday - she is still available to work.

Ok thanks all, yes that is what is in the contract, just wanted to check it was 'the norm' :)

The two weeks each thing only works I feel if the job is 5 days a week and that the nanny gets all bank holidays off, as in that situation 5.6 weeks holiday equates to 4 weeks plus bank holidays.

So if the nanny was part-time, you would do something different, such as agreeing to split things roughly 50/50 but it may well depend on how much time away the family has... as the nanny could get 7 weeks holiday. 5.6 weeks is the minimum, so for some nannies they get more holiday than that.
