Hi all,

Approximately what do you budget for/what do you spend on an average day for "spending money". Aka, daily activities, food away from home, perhaps bus fare etc

I appreciate that there is no average day, but some standard examples would be great

My expenses come to around £80 a month for one family, two day a week job (including mileage) and that's doing one paid activity a week on average and normally at least 16 miles (school run) a day. I don't spend anything in the other job. Our weekly expenses change drastically though, from the point where I've not paid for an activity for three weeks now.

Oh, and we have no food costs when out due to allergies, a blue badge (so no parking costs), a disability discount card for two of the children and merlin passes for all three (including carer passes) so that brings costs down as we can go to the sealife centre every week for free Grin

In term time I would say it's averages about £12 a week (I work a 4 day week so £3 a day). This is for 4 children. This includes playgroups/singing groups/food away from home/bus fares/train fares. It doesn't include 'lessons' e.g. swimming/music/ballet/drama, that probably adds an extra £60 a week, but it's not a 'nanny' expense because they would be doing those things anyway.

In the school holidays it varies massively, all the groups we normally go to are closed and there is no school run so no regular bus fares, plus no afterschool activities and no regular snack away from home. Some weeks the spend is £0 if we have playdates, trips to the park/library etc. If we have a week where we go to the cinema, museum, zoo then the spend can be upwards of £100.

In term time we spend £20 a week most of the time we go slightly over. sometimes can be a bit less. Thats for two 4 year olds. we usually do gym on a monday tho and that comes to nearly £10 so thats half of it used up on the first day.

Doing soft play today, £3 per child plus £1.40 parking. Priced up another softplay and that was £9 for 2 children. So costs will vary by location, number of and age of children.

Went to the library, that cost £2.20 in parking. Free parking is unheard of in my area, though we do look for it when possible.

Not sure, but I always worry... I go to 3 free play sessions a week and one trip to an English Heritage site and I am a member so this is 'free.' I tend to spend very little in a normal week but have a blow out once every month and spend on soft play and lunch etc
