How much £ for after school care?

How much could I expect to pay for someone to pick up DD from school at 3 take her home and look after her (and DS who will already be there with a tutor who finishes at 4) until I got home at 5.30pm.

So school pick up and 1 hours care for one child and a further 1.5 hours care for both of them (both age 7 DS has ASD but is not hard work and will prob just be on the PC or in garden on scooter/trampoline)

We are on the South Coast. What can I expect to pay? Trying to work out if going back to work is worthwhile financially Confused

Hi Fauxfox. Is there any reason why you wouldn't use a CM for this? So only difference being that the CM would take DD to her house rather than yours? Reason I ask is you may find it difficult to find someone prepared to do such short hours at your house. You could advertise on Gumtree and locally e.g. village shop, local paper, etc., and might find someone willing to do it. Alternatively others have suggested to me looking for a sixth former to do something similar. Could you try that?

In terms of pay, I am in your area and CMs charge around £3.50 per hour for one child and about £2.50 for the second. But for someone to come to your home I would expect tp pay £10 per hour.

I thought it might be around £10. As I said in my post my son has autism and a tutor til 4 at home so a CM would have to pick up DD at 3 from school and then DS at 4 from my house (besides which DS would find that too stressful compared with staying at home).

Sorry I wasn't sure what ASD meant but can see that yes, you would need someone at yours and not really a sixth former-type either. I'd try advertising locally and on Gumtree. In my old house I used to have a lovely lady who would come and babysit daytime whenever I wanted for an hourly rate - she was a granny and it suited her to have a bit of pin money but without too much commitment. Hopefully you can find someone similar, with experience of childcare. Smile
