Any tips on how to hire a part time nanny in SE10?

Hi, I am trying to hire a nanny for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the Greenwich SE10 area (2.5 old son and newborn) but we have only had a few replies to my childcare.co.uk advert none of which have been suitable. Can anyone recommend another way to advertise other than childcare.co.uk I have approached some nanny agencies but the fees are high and I would rather try less expensive methods first (feel free to tell me I am being to stingy and I just need to cough up the agency fees!). Thank you.

Nannyjob
Gumtree.
shh netmums.
Local paper.
Local primary or nursery school (if they allow)

Nanny job and gumtree charge a small fee. Paper will charge.

I'm sure others will be along with other suggestions but if not, do a search, there are loads of threads along these lines.

What details have you included in the ad? I see parents advertising for a nanny and the info in the ad can often contain very little.

We found ours through gumtree. But there is also a thriving local nanny network, do you know anyone else who has a nanny who might know someone looking for work?

Is it the ad that starts:
We are a married couple (37 and 39) living in Greenwich. My husband works and I am currently at home. We have a 2.5 year old son and are expecting our second son at the e?

If so, then when searching for Parents Wanting Childcare, that is all that is shown before someone clicks through to look at more info. So change that so it jumps out at people with regard to what it is you are looking for. Does the nanny want to know how old you are?

Change it to say something like:
Looking for a Nanny to work Mon, Tue, Wed to help mum care for 2.5 year old and Newborn, starting in [month].

If this is your profile, then you have
Full Time Nanny
option selected. The job is not full time.

Is the problem that you want a nanny/housekeeper? Perhaps define much clearer with regard to what the nannies duties would be. There is no salary range mentioned.

Is the start time 8.45 or 12.30? Bit confusing.

If this is not your ad, then feel free to ignore... though look at your own ad, how does it read? Does it contain enough info for someone looking for a job?

Have you tried contacting nannies themselves? Looks like quite a lot of recent ads from nannies in the Greenwich area.
You need to be a Gold member of Childcare.co.uk to be able to send messages... much cheaper than paying agency fees.

I have had good success recruiting through Gumtree in SE3.... but always several unsuitable replies and you have to just filter harshly and chat to people on the phone before interviewing them. My experience is also that the best people don't necessarily have the formal experience you might "expect", but they come across well in their response and you feel comfortable the moment you meet them.

Also perhaps ask around at playgroups etc as there is a strong nanny network in the area.
Good luck!

I've never had any luck with childcare.co.uk, you're better off with gumtree and just wading through the unsuitables.
You do need to be really specific with your ad.

Thanks very much to everyone for their comments.
