I've recently started looking at the Childcare Bill, and I was wondering how it will affect everyone.
I've certainly not got to grips with what it all means yet. Though it looks as though Ofsted will have two databases of childcare providers - A and B (hmm, wonder if they will get names at some point).

Anyone read the Childcare Bill yet, and understand it? What changes do you think it will make?

Very confusing (& as you said before, worrying)

Don't think I like separating under and over 3's (tho' it might be good for me)

When is it due in?

I've found Section 95, which defines what they mean by certain phrases they use in the document (why could they not have definitions at the beginning, far easier) so for those of you who want to read the Childcare Bill, these will help:

Early Years Childminding = Childminder - care on domestic premises for reward.

Later Years Childminding = care for a child after the 1st Sept following the child's 5th birthday.

Therefore I expect most childminders will become Early Years Childminding and Later Years Childminding, as would care for children aged under 5 and over 5.
This is what I think it means see for yourself on page 53 of the PDF, section 95.

Nick...it's too late & I've had a shitty day

I'll look at it soon...maybe
I think I hate children (&possibly parents) - but I'll probably like them again tomorrowGrin

Glad you stated that Nannynick - was just wondering where to start!

Don't think this affects Scotland does it?

nannynick · 28/02/2006 22:07

No, Scotland is not affected by this Bill.

Don't think there is ever a good place to start, Tan1959. Glad you like the idea of having this thread, as it may help us work out what the Childcare Bill means and how it will affect us. Myself I am interested in how it affects Nannies - and more specifically myself, as I think it will result in me appearing on both List A and List B, depending on the specific job I am doing on any particular day! (and I thought they were going to make the system easier)

I hope this thread is useful for discussing aspects of the Bill which confuse us - currently, that's all of it! At least, it's got me very confused Blush

Katymac, I have found a document from the Welsh executive which has a Timetable in it \link{http://www.wales.gov.uk/keypubmrs/content/06-008.pdf\Background Briefing Childcare Bill (Wales)}, which says that Royal Assend is aimed for Summer 2006, thus comes into force in 2008 - probably April 1st 2008. So it's a little way off yet, so no sudden panics, though helpful for future planning.
