I am having my first baby at the end of September. Im going to be a single mother with no family living close by.

I have recently done a budget and have £2,500 to pay someone to come in after the birth as I know I'm going to be petrified. (I've never even changed a nappy before)

I was hoping to find someone who could help establish a breast feeding/sleeping routine and perhaps look after baby whilst I have nap/shower/pop to the shops.

I live in a two bed flat and the second room is to be the nursery, so I only have a sofa bed in the living room.

I dont know if, therefore, it would be best to have someone come during the day...and what type of person (maternity nurse/doula) and as I only have limited funds what would be the best use of it.

I live in Putney, so if anyone has thoughts/reccommendations I'd very much appreciate it. Im getting very nervous about it all!

How about having an experienced nanny in the day time and doing the nights by yourself.

I bet you will be a natural its really not that hard.

I'm a maternity nurse also with over 15 years experience working with new borns as a nanny and maternity nurse.

I've worked for a single mother before and supported her by helping her learn to "read" her babies signals, supported breastfeeding, setting up a flexible routine, cooking some meals and making sure the mother ate regularly, also running the broom and the mop around and doing errands. Also making sure the mum had times to herself just with the baby and also rest times.

I'd be happy to talk further about helping out. Depending on your confidence a start date would work for a week after due date and maternity nurse to stay for two - three weeks. Often with my short bookings I provide a support to the parents by email/phone for any questions they may have after I've left.
