Salary for a live out nanny, London

Hi,

I am investigating employing a nanny and would like to know the cost. It would be 40 hours per week, 8.30 until 6.30, four days a week, live out, looking after a 1 yo and a 4 yo.

I'm in Finsbury park, north London.

Thanks very much

What a nanny will expect to be paid will vary. If you look on websites like NannyJob you may get a feel for what salaries are typically on offer. However it is entirely up to you as the employer to decide what you will offer someone, and for the applicant to decide if they will accept that pay level.

Examples: Finchley £500-£550 (presumed to be Net), 11.5 hour day.
Finchley £550-£600 Net, 12 hour day.

I would have suspected that £11-£14 gross an hour would possibly be a range to consider.

If you use MrAnchovy's PAYE Calculator it will help you get a feel for how much Employers NI will be for a particular salary.

For example, if you were to offer £12 gross per hour, then Employers NI is around £2422, bringing your cost as employer to £27,451 (gross salary + Employers NI). You would then have other costs on top to factor in to your budgeting, such as cost of activities, cost of transport whilst nanny is on duty, nannies lunch, payroll admin (if you are not going to to do it yourself), that sort of thing.

Thank you very much. Most helpful. The variance is enormous, with the bottom end being entirely affordable and the top being completely unaffordable. Thanks again very much.

Advertise the job at a figure you can afford and see who applies. How much experience someone has may well be a factor - do you feel you need someone with prior nannying experience, or would you take someone who had previous group childcare experience such as working in a nursery?

I think I'm looking for someone that seems to like my kids! Extent of experience I'm completely flexible with. I think I'm going to offer a gross salary of 24k per annum for the four day week. Thanks again nick.
