You don't need to use nanny tax (or way 2 Paye) if you are happy to register with hmrc and do payroll yourself. Personally I am too lazy but it is quite straightforward to register and calculate.

Nannytax would be able to help with contract and if you used an agency may have a sample.

Things to think about our hours, duties, pay, holidays, sick pay, what constitutes dismissible offences , notice etc- am sure there are more but haven't got our nannies contRact here.

Next steps with nanny is to ring round her references and confirm them (assuming you have seen written copies - if Havent I would review first). Have you seen copies of her id crb and other prof certificates?

MsIngaFewmarbles · 15/06/2012 11:06

Brilliant thank Gigondas. We have asked her to supply references (only last night) so will wait for them. Its her first job after a degree so they are her uni tutor and the woman who ran the placement group shewent to, should we ask for any others?

She has just finished her degree and hasnt got her certificate yet, but she will get it in july and she isnt due to start until September. Should she have a CRB or do we need to apply for her?

Does she need to be ofsted registered? If so yes needs crb. If not its up to you (personally I would) but I think only an agency can apply for crb checks . I am not sure how it works but afaik it wasn't something you could ask for yourself.

If you are happy with those 2 refs then fine- presumably you have a probation period. I tended only to check The most recent jobs (ie that cover last two years).

Thanks again :)

If you want to get her registered then Ofsted will do the CRB as part of their process so no need to use an agency for that.

Gigondas · 15/06/2012 14:07

Knew it was something like that wedonot but couldn't remember.

Also offsted registration can take a while to come through so won't be able to use vouchers til then.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 15/06/2012 14:25

No vouchers sadly. I'm going back to uni and we have 4 dc so a nanny is the cheapest option. I think for her own sake that ofsted registration would be a good idea though. Is £7.50ph ok btw? She seemed very happy with it.

That net or gross? Tbh it depends on where you are in country but as its her first job I wouldn't imagine would get top rate.

nannynick · 15/06/2012 14:48

What degree? If ChildCare or teaching related they will have been CRB checked for placements.

First aid trained?
7.50 gross fine for first job. I've had jobs (not first) paying less in the past. Consider if it gives a salary that can be lived on in your area.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 15/06/2012 17:14

Oh yes it was childcare/early years education and she did placements which she had CRB done for that.

£7.50ph is gross. Contracted hours will be 31.5 pw with potential for more hours. Tbh she seemed thrilled to bits. We are in Bristol.
