Childminders Club: Advice about teething baby.........

Hello

Started with first baby last week and this is 3rd day and the poor thing is teething big time! Her cheeks are very very hot but her overall temp is fine. She's not sleeping like she should and you can see her suffering.

When you've have teething babies, do your parents normally ask you to give them some kind of medicine like Calpol? Just wondered if maybe I should ask the mum if she has this at home?

Any advice would be great. She's a lovely baby but is really suffering and I want to help!

Thanks

Ask her about calpol/calgel/chalomilla/nelsons teething powders

If you give her a choice it's better (but aske her to supply it)

I like the teething powders

i always used teetha and have given it to babies with consent of course and it has worked wonders.

With last child he was often needing calpol and parents would get a call and they were always ok, what parent would want to see thier child suffer.?

teething gel/powders did nothing for my poor ds when he was/is teething. I used calpol or nurofen if over 6 months.

I'm open to anything, just wanted to make sure it wasn't rude of me to mention this. My ds had Medised and it was great, i know about other stuff too so will ask if i cam use something. silly question but do teething gels have to be recorded like medicines?

I'm not sure if they need to be recorded but I'd get written permission and record it anyway just to be on the safe side.

jellyjelly · 23/02/2006 16:56

I would record it also and make sure a call is given each time or a letter saying it can be given at this time etc then write it in the book.

Katymac · 23/02/2006 18:54

Do record it

Thanks everyone.

This look ok? Have I missed anything? (ignore layout, it looks different on here!)

I confirm that I am happy for HellyBelly to administer teething gel as and when she feels it necessary. I do not want a phone call each time but I understand each application needs to be recorded. I therefore agree to sign the Medication Record Book at the end of each day, if any has been administered.

AGe? just incase dosage is different?

HellyBelly · 25/02/2006 11:23

Ok, so would I need a new form when it gets older?

I never used teething gel on mindees and i havent used it for almost 3 year so i dont know what the age ranges are for the dosage. It might be 0-3 months one dose 3-6months 2 doses for example or whatever, i am thinking about covering your back if this is the case on the gels.

HellyBelly · 25/02/2006 12:14

well maybe I'll add a bit about the appropriate dose for age will be used then in book I'll record the actual amount used (which will be signed for each day)
