Umm to the best of my knowledge someone on here pays like £4 an hour. But the person is self employed

I want to hire a CM as an assistnat, which wouldbe employed, and I will be paying £5 - £6 depending on experience and whether the parents consent to them having sole charge.

Ofsted won't necessarily up your numbers unless you have a huge house and it might not be doubled even then. Ofsted would allow it if everything was okay I think....

HellyBelly · 23/02/2006 15:09

lunavix is right, i asked at my inspection (was thinking of teaming up with dh) and inspector said they would not increase my numbers (can totally see why though!)

jellyjelly · 23/02/2006 15:24

I know of someone that works with another minder at her house and she can have 3 extra children. (6 toddlers full time) She charges 350 per hour for each child and pays the other minder 320 per hour and takes the 30p per hour as rent/overheads etc.

Katymac · 23/02/2006 16:06

I employ 2 other minders

I pay them £5.30 ph (including B/H & 2 week unpaid leave and 4 weeks paid leave)

Until recently they got £5 ph with no paid leave

ThePrisoner · 23/02/2006 17:49

If I use my dh or dds (all registered as assistants for emergency care or to help out if I'm asked to have extra children), I don't pay them anything!!!

bigisbeatifulwasoldandfat · 23/02/2006 18:42

katmac. how were ofsted about this. did they let you increase numbers. (no point for me doing it otherwise) and do you have a massive house?

OFSTED were OK

I registered with DH and we job shared
we got 1 assistant, then a 2nd.

The 2nd registered as a minder along with a 3rd person & OFSTED upped our numbers to 9
DH now does less and I have a 4th person as assistant (the first person has temp stopped working for me due to family comittments - but will be back soon)
I have a 1950's ex council house and have put 2 conservatories on the back one 16x12 and the other 29x12 so I have a through room with an offcie a playroom a quiet room and a toilet/nappy area - I have some photos if you want to see - just CAT me(or get my email from my website on the new website)

HTH

A friend of mine registered at my address: On my own I am permitted 6 under 8 of which 3 may be under 5 and no more than one child under 1; and when working with another childminder am permitted to have 6 under five of which none may be under 1.

As yet I have not had the quantity of mindees to warrant her starting here with me. In addition to this also, she doesn't seem to be able to get her head around the fact that I will not be able to pay her X amount per hour, per child!

bigisbeatifulwasoldandfat · 23/02/2006 22:27

how many are you allowed with her there?

OP posts:
Tan1959 · 24/02/2006 18:00

Six under 5 with none being under 1.

ThePrisoner · 24/02/2006 18:41

With any of my able assistants (!), I can have 6 under 5 years, which can include 2 under 1s.

Tan1959 · 24/02/2006 19:14

TP - I wonder why, when working alone, (me that is) I can have 3 under 5's can include one under 1 but if I were to work with my co-childminder, I can have 6 under 5's but no under 1's. I find this rather strange.

I did call upon my co-childminder a few weeks ago as I was over my numbers by 1 so she came for the day - it was only when reading my certificate when this thread was started that I wondered whether I had actually acted within the regulations as stated on my certificate. On this particular day I had 3 onbe to five year olds and one baby under 1 when co-childminder was here - do you think that I have contravened the statement as per my Certificate?

This has only just occurred to me

ThePrisoner · 24/02/2006 19:28

Hmmm, sounds really strange about the under 1s bit. I don't understand why you suddenly can't have any under 1s if you are with your co-minder! Therefore, yes you probably have done something you shouldn't (eeeek!!) but I would definitely follow this up with OFSTED, because it is a ridiculous thing as you may have a permanent under 1-year-old that you would have to "get rid of" if you had an extra child for a day and needed your co-minder.

Besides, if I can have two under 1s with any of my assistants, it's utterly ridiculous that you can't!!

Katymac · 24/02/2006 21:17

Any two of us can have 3 under 1's....so none is quite odd

ThePrisoner · 24/02/2006 23:17

Tan - I think someone at OFSTED hit the wrong key when processing your registration, as they have obviously made a bit of a mistake.

Tan1959 · 25/02/2006 21:13

Yes, me too, going to call them on Monday
