Looking for Post natal doula

Its just they seem quite expensive per hr at £12-20 ! I just feel I might need some help a few hrs a week after the birth of my next bubs in Aug, especially after my past post natal history with dd. Ive been looking at the Doula Uk web site, but very few in my area. Mothers helps seem to be more live in and we cant do a live in situation. Im just not sure what to do. Any ideas??

maybe you could see if you could advertise for some live out help at a local nanny/nursery nurse training college?

Isyhan · 22/02/2006 19:13

why dont you approach an agency and ask about nursery nurses or midwives. Ambition agency are one. If I was a midwife looking for some extra work I may fancy helping you out for some money rather than going onto a ward (mega stress!)I heard about a babysitting agency on baby channel that hired people to babysit to give mums a break for a night so they could get some sleep.

melsy · 22/02/2006 20:12

All good ideas, thank you mums !

I suppose what I find hard is having someone like that to spend a lot of time with me at home in my own private space, Im nervous I suppose having never done it. Im not sure how to word it withought causing offence. I suppose I see a doula as more of a companion/helper rather than specificaly for looking after the baby, which is something I would prefer to do and use my mummy instincts. Cant seem to get at what I mean.

MarsOnLife · 22/02/2006 21:05

Alex at Sleeping Babies, she may well be able to help you. Her night nanny rates are approx £10 per hour, sometimes less depending on no of hours. Not sure about doula rates specifically.

melsy · 26/02/2006 16:43

So she does doula work to ? Is it possible to have more details on here nannyme?

Hi

Ok, it is Alex Keisner telephone 07767 446000 and sleepingbabies.co.uk and she can provide short term day and night maternity care. The difference between alex and other agencies is that her nurses are all specially skilled in either sleep training, maternity nursing or some other area and are used to passig on their skills to parents.

Her rates and other info are available on her website.

Hope this helps.

If you do contact her mention mumsnet as I have told her that I have recommended her here!

melsy · 03/03/2006 15:13

Thank you for the info nannyme. I think Im more inclined towards a doula than a maternity nurse or midwife though for many reasons , but I will give her a call to sound it out.

Oh what happened to alibubbles ?

& thanks to everyone else , the more I read about it all the more I feel a doula is for me, not sure why , just going with strong instinct.

Ive got 2 ladies lined up for interviews in a couple of weeks, but it would be good to get a few more, but there arent many in my area, as they like to be local , esp as only doing half days.

melsy, I'm still here. Just after the David Cameron thingy, a couple of people I know came on to mumsnet and uncovered my persona. I am more than happy to have said a a lot of things on here, but there was a few very personal things that i don't want ALL and SUNDRY to know about me. I am happy for most people to know most things about me, but some don't need to know!

I used to feel fairly anonymous on here, but as I have now recommended Mumsnet to a few people I know, I just needed to make sure that I was happy with whhat was posted. The only way of doing that is deleting all posts.

If nothing comes of your search and you need help for the last two weeks of August I would be happy to help if I can.

Irena · 25/03/2006 15:00

Does anyone know of a nice doula in the Manchester area? I'm due in July and the idea of having someone to help afterwards sounds great (and very necessary) but all the agencies seem to be London and the SW only

pupuce · 26/03/2006 18:36

Irena

  • CAT me and I will give you the names of a couple you could try Smile
pupuce · 26/03/2006 18:38
