Childminder or nursery/ after school club?

Hi
I am going round in circles trying to work this one out. I'm back at work later this year and will have a nine month old and a four year old in reception. I'm not keen on nursery for very little ones so would much rather use a childminder esp. if she could also collect DD1 from school and do holiday care. But then I wondered if that would work for the CM since DD will only be 4, would she use up an under 5 place even though she won't be there all day?

A 4 year old in full-time education can be classed as a 5 year old for ratio purposes. The new EYFS starts in September and within 3.40 it says "If children aged four and five only attend the childminding setting before and/or after a normal school day, and/or during school holidays, they may be cared for at the same time as three other young children."

So I would suggest you contact childminders who live near the school and see what availability they have to have DD1 and her younger sibling.

Thank you! That's so helpful to have the reference just in case any of the CMs I talk to aren't aware of it.
