Mini Jubilee tea party ideas?

I run an After School Club for 15 children, aged 5-11. I would like to do a tea party for them next week in honour of the Queen's Jubilee, however I have a tiny budget and not much help.

I am planning to get the DC to make crowns to wear and flags a couple of days before. I was thinking of doing a platter of cucumber sandwiches (and some cheese ones for the fussy eaters!) and serving orange juice in tea cups. Maybe some fairy cakes and a plate of fruit as well.

What else could I do to make this a special event for them, rather than a usual snack time? Very grateful for any ideas.

P.s. Obviously I am not technically a childminder, but hope you don't mind me using your board to look for ideas! Smile

What a fab idea. Can you get white paper table covers and leave out red and blue crayons for them to draw on the table with? Union jacks for the artistic? Is there any way you can make the food red white and blue?

The ideas you already have are great. They will love it.

I think what you are going to do also sounds great, and wont necessarily cost that much. It will be much cheaper to make a batch of fairy cakes than buy them, just ice them with white butter icing and then sprinkle them with red and blue sprinkles, theres bound to be some in the shops just now. Also I think poundland are selling union jack cake cases to.

Just wanted to add what a fab idea and hope all enjoy.

And welcome to the board.

Thank you, I like the idea about the tablecloths. Was thinking we could make placemats as well by colouring a Union Jack and laminating, and maybe little crown name cards as well. So lots of crafty ideas for next week!

I've got some plain (rich tea) biscuits - going to mix up some red/blue/white icing and let them decorate some biscuits. They can enjoy them on the day, and also share them with the families!
I have also cut 3 triangles out and let the children colour them red/white/blue to hang around the room!
Hama beads are also a good on for the older ones! - Red/White/Blue patterns or even having a go at the Union Jack!
The place mat idea is fab!
Have a great day!

Do you have any beads and thread? My older children like to thread patterns of red, white and blue. They look stunning once finished (oh, and keeps them quiet for a while too!!!)

Thanks for the ideas, I love the biscuit one. I may do that as an activity on the day of the party and let them take them home with them afterwards.

I went shopping in Wilkinsons today and managed to get some red, white and blue facepaints and balloons, very cheap. Also got some big flags to use as tablecloths.
