Bean bags for a large 9 month old?

I am looking after a 9 month old who is on the 100% centile. (or whatever it is) and his 2 1/2 brother. I have a big mat that I put the youngest on as he is currently not crawling. Because he can't turn over due to the size of him he needs to change position from time to time as he gets fed up of being in the same position.

Now his brother loves him and likes to go in for a cuddle but knocks him over in the process. I have to sit behind him so this doesn't happen. Not practical.

Was thinking of having him in a bean bag which would be more comfortable for the youngest and will stop him being knocked over.

Would this work or do you think something else would work? I don't want to hold the baby all the time as he is heavy but at the moment is one of the only ways to keep him safe.

Can you encourage him to get moving? Give him tummy time to build up his core strength etc? If he isn't given a chance to try then he won't learn. I know he's big but I'm sure the floor time will help. Perhaps put him in a travel cot (that's what I do with my baby dd when I need to keep getaway from ds eg if I'm making dinner as he's quite full on with her). Or you can get him a bouncy chair to sit in - we have a baby bjorn which takes up to 2 year old toddlers so pretty sturdy!

What about one of those blow up ring things, he can sit on his own supported and he is padded all around. I ha done for my dd and it helped her to sit up properly.

Think they are called nests.

Oh he does have regular tummy time. His brother in whatever position he is in "gives him loves" if you get my drift. The younger one get fed up with it at times.

He has started to "crawl" but it's more to do with pushing himself back or somehow sideways. It's a start.

Or a bumbo seat, depends how chunky his legs are as to whether he'd fit but you can get ones with trays.

Id get a travel cot then. Quite cheap and might already have one. Or a playpen? A beam bag wouldn't stop the two year old and he could knock him over. Also my ds used to launch himself out of the bumbo when he was older by straightening his legs and would fly back!

I had forgotten that we had a nest under the stairs and used it today. Baby loves it!

I left it up while going out with the baby for a bit and my DH (who cm's with me) came home with the older children. They took turns to sit in it. We came home and baby had to go in the high chair for snack anyway. Afterwards though I told the other mindees that were using the nest to get out of it as I wanted to put baby in. Older brother did go in for his hugs but baby was unaffected. Brilliant! Also when baby was lieing back he could sit himself back up as he wasn't compleatly flat.

Thank you :)

p.s. He's too big for the Bumbo
