What activities would you do with an 8 month old inside?

All I can think of is singing, reading books, playing with toys.

hi i have an 8 month old daughter and that's what we do as well.she likes toys that sing and move and big fluffy ones.i sing to her and she likes to look at books when i turn the pages.can't do much else. hope it was helpful

That's pretty much what I did with my DD at that age. we have lots and lots of picture books! You could also try giving her household objects like wooden spoons for her to experiment with. I started taking DD to Gymbabes at about 8 months and she enjoyed the singing and playing with the balls and hoops, etc. She is now 10 months old and pretty much entertains herself most of the time, crawling about, climbing up on the sofa and playing with whatever is lying around on the floor!

We make use of the activity arches used for smaller babies (the sort that they lie underneath), but attach loads of different toys on it, particularly if they are noisy! I've got a (child's) mirror, bells, rattles, bits of ribbon etc. on it, ideal for a sitting baby or a baby starting to stand up.

The other thing you can give them, but definitely under close supervision, is a treasure basket - which you fill with odd bits and pieces that are touchy/feeling (pine cone, brush, screwed up foil, bubble wrap, feather etc).

Any babies that I mind obviously come to the usual social groups I go to with older ones, including a music group and soft play.

I was going to mention treasure baskets - there are some lovely ones on websites - take their ideas and make your own

Make a big bowl of jelly and let them play with it, they can squish it through their fingers and it doesn't matter if they eat a bit.

I used to give them things to play with at the high chair with different textures (flour, water, rice crispies, oats, a splodge of jam) along with spoons, cups and bowls. They do 'cooking' which is messy, but they loved it.

They also love a big box to crawl in and out of.

Spidermama - that sounds like breakfast, lunch and tea at my house
