How do you become a childminder?

My DS is 4 months and my mother in law has kindly offered to look after him when I return to work which will be when he is 1 year old. She is 60 and has heard that if she does a childminder course I could buy childcare vouchers through work to pay her with. Is this true and what modifications would she have to make to her house and what exams etc would she have to take?

Are you in England?

Assuming you are in England this would only work if your MIL was also minding a child she is not related to. Is that something she would be prepared to do?

Yes I'm in England.

I didn't realise she would have to look after a non related child. She doesn't at the moment

Yes otherwise everyone would be doing it!

Has you mil researched cming properly? It's much more than taking a few exams and claiming child care vouchers...

No I don't think she has actually!
