I am considering increasing my prices for anyone new I take on. What is the going price now. I am in herts. I am thinking of £5.00 an hour which includes a snack.

When doing an emergency evacuation what do you shout?

if a child is attending nursery or pre school (few hours) what do you charge the parents if you are on standby? normal fees as if they were with you or half fee? I know the child takes up one of your spaces but what if you have spaces for more children if you wish? One of my littles ones will be going next year some time and I want to be ready to know what to do.

How much have you paid for your first aid? a childminder says its £100 for her fist aid course. Why are we being charged so much for something which is compulsory? we also have to pay for safeguarding too.

What are you thought on the above Sorry for putting all these question togeher.

Berkshire £47.50 for 0800-1800 Mon-Fri - includes nappies, wipes, milk, outings, food and just about anything else you can think of. This is charged whether the child comes 8-6 or 12-2 regardless.

I try not to shout in an evacuation Grin and just get the children to our evacuation point as quickly as possible. I have a lovely fire engine picture there and the children practice in a fun way. (School children more seriously)

I think I paid £84 for my last first aid course. Would be lovely if it was subsidised, but I can't see it happening.

we're in Herts and pay £4.50/hour, but only for hours DS is there. He has been with CM for 2 years though, so not sure what her new costs are. She provides drinks and snacks, as well as basic lunch, but parents are welcome to provide extra snacks and fruit to help her out (as she says, no child with her will starve, but the cost of fruit is quite a shocker if you have 3 toddlers to feed on it! so if I want DS to have anything more than a banana/apple/satsuma, I have to provide it myself. I am happy to do this)

DS won't be going to preschool/nursery on the days he is with CM, so can't help with that.

Thanks for that Kveta Smile

I'd say it can vary a lot even within a certain area so best to check out the competition. I'm not far from HSMM and charge £4.50 ph. I don't have a fixed day rate but I do have minimum hours booked (can't remember what my part time rate is but it was a LOT higher, something like £6+ but I've changed that from Sept as I'm actively looking for school hours so part time would suit me if they were the right hours). Like HSMM, I include nappies, wipes, drinks, snacks, breakfast, lunch and pay for outings HOWEVER I do charge £2 per evening meal (as I basically don't want to do them too much any more after almost 7 years!). I believe I go on the same First Aid training as HSMM so same prices. As for preschool/nursery sessions, I charge whilst they are there as I can't fill their spaces.

HTH :)

The going rate in East Herts is £5/hour (im recently registered so did research!) but obviously you can find cheaper ones and you can find more expensive too.
With fire evac, do you mean to alert the children you need to start the drill? Could you blow a whistle, ring a bell etc?
I paid £115 for my first aid but I've know someone get it for as low as £40. Check with LA or local CM network?
As for pre school, I've not had to make that decision yet so would be interested in other answers!

*HSMM thanks for your comment too. What do you do if they are not all in the same room? would it not take longer to gather everyone up. I have older kids too.

looneytune thanks for the preschool bit. I have never had to deal with taking a child to nusery/pres school and collecting them, I take one girl to nursery but I am not on call d not collect her either.

my2rpincesses yes the alert call for evacuations. I have a whislte which I may start using.

i am looking to do my first aid again so rung around a couple and lowest i found was 65 pounds with encore and 125 with st johns. so def look around before booking.
my understanding in my local area is if you do both pick up and drop off at pre school and will be having them full time in hols and insert days and on call for them you charge full fee for whole session. if mums dropping and you fetch (or other way round) and mums on call and your not having them in hols then you dont charge. if you could potentially fill the space then its fisable not to charge however if they want you in hols etc then they need to retain your space by paying. is she paying for school fees or is child over 3 and being funded is another consideration.

They normally are in the same room (conservatory play room), but they could be in the toilet or bedroom. We are lucky that we are a CM couple, so one can take the nearest children out while the other scoops up the stragglers.

Thanks for that.
