Hello,
Have just had my second child and plan to be on mat leave for the rest of the year. We live in central London where childcare is expensive and all nurseries have waiting lists so am trying to decide which way we will go when I go back to work: all day nursery for both children or a nanny with some preschool sessions added in for the eldest.
We've kept the 18 month old in nursery for two days a week while I am on leave. When I return to work, I hope to work no more than three days a week. So my question is, how do I figure out costs for a nanny for three days a week? I've read on here that average gross hourly pay for London nannies is at the £13 per hour mark. So assuming 11 hr days and three days a week, we are looking at £430 per week. Does that sound right for say 7.30am to 6.30pm three days a week to look after a 2.5yr old and 1 year old?
Now for the silly question: How many weeks per year do I multiply it by? Do I assume 52 weeks per year? How does it work with holidays? I understand the statutory entitlement to holidays and the need to pro rata it. But can someone give me a rough guide for a part time nanny?
Thank you!
