Nanny is turning 30....

my nanny is turning 30 - and I really want some suggestions on what we could give her to mark this special day. I looove her to bits, she has been with us for over 5 years. I really am struggling for ideas as we have down 5 lots of birthday and Christmas pressies now. She is not into jewelry (so can't buy something and have engraved), she just recently bought a laptop, and we don't want it to be money. The idea I am most warming to is giving her 30 nice but not cripplingly expensive presents - hence coming here so I can start putting together a list! oh and I will do a photo montage of her and the kids over the years which I think will be lovely..

Hand made stuff if always good especially from the kids

My nanny had a significant birthday and I asked her for suggestions,

She got vouchers so she could put it towards something

Other ideas are theatre and restaurant vouchers - hamper of goodies is nice if she is a foodie

30 gifts is a lot!

Keep them coming!!!

I had this idea of presenting it all in a gift basket and the kids handing over an album of their best pictures over the years - I am getting a bit excited but need more ideas!

I think the idea of a an album of the children over the years she has been with you is a truly fab idea and the best one you could do, IMO. But if you want to get something else along side that how about those 'experience' packages you can buy? You mentioned about her having a laptop already, so that would indicate you are happy to spend a little more than normal.

My brother bought me a gift for my 30 like this and I picked doing the helicopter ride, which was magnificent and will never forget it. There are loads of these type gifts out there, not just thrill seeking ones.

Small things is great. And maybe the children could pick some - they'll be crazy and hilarious, but they'll love it? Lots of good ideas here already but here are a few I can think of. Not sure how many would be appropriate.

Nice gloves (I know it's not winter but most people don't buy nice gloves for themselves)
A book - fiction/non fiction according to what she likes.
A summer scarf - I saw H&M was doing some lovely ones recently
Photo keepsakes like a mug or key ring? www.photobox.com
Nice pen
Handcream
Quality chocolate
A small vase
Nice coffee/tea if she drinks it
A pretty tablecloth
Pajamas
selection of nail varnish - those little ones where you get five mini colours from a specific brand always seem nice
Is she into any sport/exercise? If so, what about clothes for that or accessories?
A trinket box

Buy her a star!

We did this for my dd's special birthday.

Was only about £25 from some gift company and she got a certificate/star chart etc. You can name it what you want as well.

BikeRunSki · 20/04/2012 08:29

Big bar of really good chocolate
Nice lip balm, Burt's Bees or similar
Good winter tights if she wears skirts
Posh coffee/tea
Initial charm for necklace or bracelet
Nice silver ear studs or decent zirconia ones
Good shampoo

"Buy her a star!"

Hmm. I would only do that if you know she likes "useless" presents. Sorry Heavy but I really would hate it if someone wasted their money on buying something like that for me or DD.

pictish · 20/04/2012 08:36

You can't 'buy' a star. That is such a swizz!
You can however, pay silly amounts for a piece of paper, that pretends you have.

Heavyheartandsoreeyes · 20/04/2012 10:23

Buying a star is a bit of fun and a nice thought (I think anyway)

Dd loved hers, I'm not looking for planning permission to start building on it but it's a nice reminder of a special birthday.

kitsmummy · 20/04/2012 10:33

We had two stars bought for our DCs christenings - I thought they were shit gifts! (sorry Heavy!!!)

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/04/2012 14:48
