Hi,

I am interested in becoming a childminder (in Scotland if this makes a difference?) so I can also stay at home with my DD. Wondering if anyone can give me any sort of advice on getting starting, ie initial outlay for making any changes to home etc?

Ty in advance

I'm not a childminder so can't offer much advice. Though can direct you to the Scottish Childminding Association who have a guide to registering and running a childcare service which may be worth a read.

Sorry know how to link but go over to the childmindinghelp forum where you'll be able to get very specific advice. We're very friendly over there , although I'm a cm I'm in England so not sure how you would get started.

As you have children already I'm guessing your house will already be child proof so you may not have the expense of that. If you don't have mains wired smoke alarms then you will need to get them. Whn I registered it was an enhanced disclosure that I needed I'm sure care commission paid for this. Now its the pvg I think you may have to pay it yourself £ 59. You don't need first aid to start up but need to get. It once your registered. Local councils usually run these at no cost. Once your registered you will able to access various courses through your council. You will need to phone and book yourself on a pre registration course. You will need to pay insurance £70/£80. Although the 1st year I was 140? As I bought the start up pack it included fire blanket, register, contracts account bk, accident shhet medication sheet. You don't need to have loads of toys for each age group when you start as you don't know what age the children will be that you will get. As long as you have toys to start and willing work in getting more. You will need to get extra highchair if your child is still using it, maybe a double buggy to depending on the age of your we one.
