Hi, I posted the other day and still needing a bit of advice.

The advice I have been given by my LA is to send the forms off to ofsted (they dont normally advise this but as im in a rush to be registered to do it this way), they cant give me any info on the start up fund at the moment.

So I send the forms off, have to pay £30 for doc to sign form, got all references and first aid and I do have an enhanced CRB.

LA has advised me to book onto the course online with NCMA, £158+VAT.

I am happy to do all this but my only concern is what is at the end they tun round to me and say no sorry you cant be a CM and I have paid all this money out.

That's cheap. Some doctors will charge a lot more than that, so you are very lucky there.

Keep receipts for everything you pay out, as those are business expenses.
If you have not seen it already, this document from HMRC Business support team is handy for knowing about expenses, turnover, profit etc.

Yes, if you are rejected you may have wasted the money. That's part of the risk of starting your own business. However you may find that you can still use things you have done... for example, you may be able to still be a nanny on the voluntary part of the childcare register.

Are they likely to reject your application?

Thank you nanny nick! Yes im glad its only £30 which is cheap! Obviously I dont mind paying out for that, it was more the course I was worried about!

I cant see why I would be rejected. I already have someone who wants me, I just wasnt sure how fussy/picky ofsted are and what sort of thing they can refuse me on? But im already a mum, have lots of experience and have glowing references lol

Past criminal history and drug taking is what I suspect they would be looking for, in terms of reasons not to register. There have been Care Standards Tribunal (now part of HM Courts Service) cases where it wasn't the childminder themselves but someone else living at the home who caused the problem with initial registration, or ongoing registration - such as a boyfriend moving in whose criminal record was not considered to be suitable.

I wont have that kind of problem, OH is a prison officer for juveniles and has a glowing CRB!
