Kind of a moral dilemma...am newly registered and have had a child with me for the last month as their mum has just had a new baby so he comes to me for a couple of mornings as a break for her. I was warned just after they started that the mum had left a local playgroup and nursery in arrears and was a bad payer but the source wasn't massively credible so I took it with a pinch of salt and mum has been fab with payment. This week the new baby is poorly in hospital, nothing life threatening but v worrying nonetheless i'm sure. I have had the child extra hours as mum is at the hospital but feel guilty charging for these as if i'm profiting from someone's misery. I don't charge a lot anyway and has only asked for 4 hours worth instead of the 5 it actually has been. Should I charge? Would YOU charge?

I've had a similar situation and no, I didn't/couldn't charge. It just didn't feel right. Mindee stayed later than usual a couple of days and mum wanted to pay the extra hours but i 'accidently' forgot to add the hours to the invoice.

I wouldn't charge if it was some extra time on a day that I was having the child anyway, if it was not inconveniencing me in any way or if I liked the family. Otherwise I would charge. By not charging you are risking a situation where you are not seen as a professional providing a service.
