CYPW help re Behaviourist theories and relation to EFYS?

Sorry to post here I'm just at a complete loss on this one! I am currently writing about how various theorists work have influenced the EYFS. I have a list of 8 theorists I need to discuss and I'm stuck on the first three Blush

I have to discuss Pavlov, Skinner and Bandura (I will also mention Thorndike) and reference what they have influenced on the EYFS and how I use it in my practice. Now the second part is easy but I fail to see where in the EYFS it mentions how to manage behaviour, it just states that corporal punishment is not to be used for behavioural management (unless in the usual case of a child may harm themselves unless you do) and that settings must have "an effective behavioural management policy". Even the guidance document hasn't got anything.

I am using the 2007 version of the EYFS though as it's the only copy I have on hard copy, is it mentioned in later versions? I've briefly looked at the one just released and it has less on behaviour management than the 2007 one!

Can you use the practice guidance? There are several mentions of positive reinforcement for behaviour, noting how children react to praise etc.

I'm assuming that I can but I haven't found anything like that yet, I have only been reading bits that may be relevant at the moment though as it's 114 pages long! I may have to read the entire thing by the looks of things.

In Behaviour and Self Control (pg 35 in the 2008 version) 8-20 months there is a bit saying "Babies? responses to being praised when they do
something you ask, such as loosening their grasp on your hair or face."

If you download a PDF version you may find it easier as you can search for the words you want.

Ah, I didn't realise there was a PDF version of the guidance for the framework, thanks :)

I think I've been looking in the wrong part of the guidance documents Blush I've found a small comment on the guidance card things about boundaries for behaviour which I can quote.

there is stuff about making choices and listening to children in the eyfs which you might be able to use. also mention of key worker.

glenthebattleostrich · 30/03/2012 17:32

Is this for the nvq level 3? If so I can send you some bits

confusedpixie · 30/03/2012 21:07

Thanks hsm, didn't think about the key worker being an example :)

It is for my level three glen, that'd be great if you could, I'd be very appreciative!

How does the keyworker fit in?

confusedpixie · 31/03/2012 00:03

I would assume a key wielder would discuss behaviour management with the parents? wouldn't they? Confused

Work with the child 1:1 whether it's discipline, independence, following example, and the work with parents. Does the key worker treat the child as a blank slate or inherently good or naughty?
