If I pay Nanny weekly, do I need to issue a weekly payslip?

That, really.

Nanny has asked to be paid weekly rather than monthly when she starts with us. That's absolutely fine, but I wondered whether we were then also obliged to provide a payslip on a weekly basis?

Where I work (different business) the people who get paid weekly still get monthly pay slips

You must provide a payslip each time you pay her.

The exact wording in the [http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1996/18/section/8 Employment Rights Act 1996]] is "An employee has the right to be given by his employer, at or before the time at which any payment of wages or salary is made to him, a written itemised pay statement."

MrAnchovy does that mean it's only law if the employee asks for it. Dp gets paid fortnightly and gets a monthly wage slip

I used to work in payroll (years ago) and we gave staff a payslip to match each payment. How can you check tax and ni otherwise?

MrAnchovy · 27/03/2012 21:57

That phrase is usually interpreted to mean that that the employer needs to give the employee a payslip without being asked in the same way as 'a right to equal treatment' doesn't mean that you can discriminate against an employee until they ask you to stop.

Im a weekly paid nanny I get a pay slip every week, it's important that you do them in a duplicate book so you have a copy

MrAnchovy · 27/03/2012 22:03

Most employers have some other way of accessing the information on the payslip (either computer records or a manual Deductions Working Sheet) and do not need a carbon copy.

Nanny payroll companies will often give you the choice in Monthly or Weekly payslips, though weekly may cost you more in administration charge. So if using a payroll company, do ask them about any admin cost associated with providing weekly payslips.

If doing payslips yourself with help from PAYE Basic tools, I think the options it gives are weekly, every two weeks, monthly.
