Practice guidance is now available on the Foundation Years website

www.foundationyears.org.uk/early-years-foundation-stage-2012/

atworknotworking · 27/03/2012 19:07

Anyone else having trouble viewing the Practice guidance?

OddBoots · 27/03/2012 19:13

I can't get anything on foundation years but I can get this: Development Matters pdf

mumo3g · 27/03/2012 19:13

Thanks oddboots

glenthebattleostrich · 28/03/2012 10:17

Thanks mum, downloaded all the additional bits too.

That's my bedtime reading sorted!

KatyMac · 28/03/2012 10:26

The bits that affect me (on initial reading.....I'll know more when I have more time)

2.3 a report at 2
3.41 the use of assistants has changed
3.59 the number of toilets has changed (for childminding settings)
3.7 records to be kept for a reasonable period of time (so not 21 years and 9 months then......)

Interesting, very interesting

KatyMac · 28/03/2012 11:10

& there is no mention of "Childcare on Domestic Premises" at all

atworknotworking · 28/03/2012 14:09

Hi katymac not too many changes I don't think, not sure about the keeping records thing, how long do you reckon is reasonable? until you run out of storage space Confused

Think the risk assessment changes will be easier as well.

ElizabethDarcy · 28/03/2012 18:47

Check with your local boroughs... my borough is having proper briefing sessions re this new framework.

Re: Managing our own variations -

3.40 If a childminder can demonstrate to parents and/or carers and inspectors, that the individual needs of all the children are being met, then exceptions to the usual ratios can be made when childminders are caring for sibling babies, or when caring for their own baby. If children aged four and five only attend the childminding setting before and/or after a normal school day, and/or during school holidays, they may be cared for at the same time as three other young children. But in all circumstances, the total number of children under the age of eight being cared for must not exceed six.

How do we demonstrate to inspectors? The same way as we do now? Or just by showing them when they come to inspect? This only mentions siblings, not existing children changing days, which is a problem I often have.

Apologies if I just haven't got to the relevent section yet!

sparklystar · 29/03/2012 08:39

3.59 Providers must ensure there is an adequate number of toilets and hand basins available (usually one toilet and one hand basin for every ten children over the age of two). Except in childminding settings, there should usually be separate toilet facilities for adults

How do they think this is going to be met ? I for one only have one bathroom and am not about to add another.

KatyMac · 29/03/2012 09:11

Except in childminding settings I think is the key phrase

As CDP they have insisted on separate loos & they can't now (always supposing CDP still exists & I want my money back if they abolish it)

No provision in new EYFS for continuation of care.
