Hi! I live in the midlands, I have 7 years experience in Childcare and a degree in education and disability. I'm currently looking for part time nannying/babysitting to help me fund a postgraduate. How much should I charge per hour? All my experience has been in schools and private day nurseries so I've never had to set my own rates before! Do you change them for weekends and evenings? Any help would be really appreciated!

I wouldn't know the rate for the Midlands, I am in the South East. I charge £8:50 per hour before midnight and £10 per hour after for babysitting.

For weekend day time work I charge £11 per hour but will not start before 10am (unless proxy parenting previous charges)

I have 25 years experience as a sole charge nanny.

I have a full time job which I love and am very well paid for. If people feel it's too much then I don't need to do it so no loss to me. I will not give up my small amount of free time for any less.

Don't price yourself out of the market though. Have a look to see what other people are offering to sit or in your area, try childcare.co.uk although I don't know if sitters put their price on there. I only sit through word of mouth!

My cm charges £3.50 p.h but that is cheap, my babysitter £5 ph and my ad hoc nanny £10 p.h (daytime)

Fairly typical for Gloucestershire. My friend pays her nanny £8 ph but that is for fixed hours, so I pay more for flexibility.

It is Childcare.co.uk that I'm on; I'm not really sure what's the difference between nannying and babysitting as I'm looking at afterschool/one day a week/end positions so theyre all sort of 4/5 hour days.

Also do you/should I charge for travel costs? Or is that included in the hourly wage?

I class babysitting as DC in bed or on their way, so very little actual childcare.

I would Pay travel costs for any extra pickups or trips as with entrance fees but not normal travel to and from home to the place of work.
