So now I just need to wait for my certificate.

I'm so excited Grin

But...I can't advertise yet as not able to leave my current job for a couple of months. Boo.. But still, it's all done.

It has taken me 8 weeks from the day I decided to become a CM to today so if anyone out there has their LA telling them they have to wait for pre-breifings blah blah blah please PM me because it's a load of arse and there's a waysimpler way to do it.

The breifing that my LA coordinator put me on is 24th April.. a whole month away which would have left me twiddlng my fingers for three months before I so much as spied an application form never mind fill one in!

Anyway, I'll get off my soap box now. Excited to be joining CM club - I'm sure I'll need you over the coming months/ years Grin

Hi - Congratulations! - looks like you won the race! My crb came back today, but I'm waiting for the call to book the pre-reg visit.... How did yours go? I agree with you completely about LAs keeping you hanging about. If I hadn't been given good advice on here I would have just gone to the first briefing this week to sign on to a course starting May to register approx October. Doing it direct with Ofsted and off my own back will save I think about 6 months!

Mrsroundbottom · 24/03/2012 20:10

Yay! I did I'm afraid. Sounds like youre not far behind though! Was going to PM you actually. Just sitting down to dins but will tell you all about visit x

Congrats, I'm just sending crb back this week and then hoping not too long. Came believe how quick you have all done it. My friend was over 4 months. What way did you do it coz I have tried to get help from my county council and it's been a month and they not returning my calls which is annoying. I don't know how to start a PM on here I have not been using it long, but any advice would be great.

These are the threads where I gained some very valuable information about doing it quickly and not going down the LA route.
I did go to a briefing session this week and it seems that if you want to obtain funding from the LA for your training course then you need to jump through their hoops. As my postcode is not one which allows me to get funding, it didn't make any difference to me anyway.

Runoutofideas · 25/03/2012 10:10

By the way if you want to PM you just click on that little bit to the right hand side of your name where it says "message poster".

Looking forward to hearing about your visit MrsRB. My LA offer a pre pre-reg visit from their childminding team to pinpoint what Ofsted might have a problem with - did you do have this too?

Mrsroundbottom · 25/03/2012 22:00

Oh poo, haven't had chance to reply properly but will do Smile

I didn't have the pre pre-reg, absolutely no need. I asked Mrs O about people failing and she said you would need to be totally unsuitable I.e no space, unclean house, aggressive personality or give worrying answers to questions I.e "what would do do if a child misbehaved" "I would put them in the corner for the rest of the day with no dinner" Wink

So basically she came in, showed me her pass and we looked around the house. There was lots that I hadn't done but I explained everything I would do regards safety and equipment.
Then we sat down and she looked over all my policies and checked my first aid certificate.
Then she asked me to name the six areas of learning and give an example of an activity for each area. She also asked about my understanding of safeguarding and what the signs of abuse are.
She didn't ask about lots of things because they were covered in my policies.
It was quite enjoyable really.
Dd showed me up a bit by watching tv for about an hour. But then went and put all her creativity to use and made Mrs O a craft present Grin

Thanks for that - very helpful. Glad it went well for you. I've just had a visit from the second family keen to use me, so hope mine happens quickly as I don't want to lose them!

MrAnchovy · 26/03/2012 10:28

Congratulations MrsRB!

Runoutofideas · 26/03/2012 10:33

Ah - Mr Anchovy - just the man! Is it legal for me to be a part-time self-employed nanny for 2 different families while I am waiting from my registration to be complete? I would plan to charge fees similar to child-minding, for which I have set up a limited company, but care for the children from their own homes rather than mine in the short-term.

MrAnchovy · 26/03/2012 11:30

Firstly a limited company cannot register as a childminder it can only register as a provider of Childcare on Domestic (or of course Non-Domestic) Premises. The main implication of that is the requirement for at least two suitable persons, one having a relevant NVQ3, to be on the premises at all times.

If you registered with HMRC as self employed with a view to providing childcare services (including childminding) and temporarily provided those services to two different families this could well be treated as part of your self employed business. If I was engaging you in this way I would want HMRC to confirm this was OK by requesting a status enquiry from the Status Customer Service Team.

Mrsroundbottom · 26/03/2012 12:34

Thanks mrA!

Runoutofideas · 26/03/2012 20:59

Thanks MrA - can you point me in the direction of where it states that a childminder cannot be a limited company, as this was suggested as my best route by my accountant, as I also have other income? If I need to set it up differently I need to sort it out now before I start taking any money. Thanks for your help.

The Childcare (Early Years Register) Regulations 2008 Sch 1 Part 1 S1 and The Childcare (General Childcare Register) Regulations 2008 Sch 1 Part 1 S1.
